I really like the style, the texture and the colors. The low saturation, specially on her skin, gives a special mood to the work.

Not to mention the "model" is cute and very "non-intentionally sensual".

I'm curious, how have you done to save the white zones? Thanks.

LunaTopaz In reply to Sanaco [2016-04-25 18:07:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I used masking fluid you paintΒ the fluidΒ on beforehand then it wont paint that spot and you can peel it off when you're done!

Sanaco In reply to LunaTopaz [2016-04-26 13:38:40 +0000 UTC]

Masking fluid, really??! Could you suggest me some mark? The masking fluids that I tried in the past, or they turned the white zones into light yellow, or they were difficult to peel. Thanks again Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LunaTopaz In reply to Sanaco [2016-04-26 21:46:29 +0000 UTC]

The one I use is called Incredible White Mask. I feel like there's a skill to removing the masking fluid and I'm not that good either! When I first started using it, I was covering up large areas of my painting, and would bust out the blow dryer to dry it, and it would peel off the paper and ruin the drawing! So now I just use it for small things, and I read not to use the blow dryer on it (but I do sometimes and it doesn't peel the paper as badly). I spend a lot of time peeling it off carefully so that it doesn't rip the paper. I also try to use thin layers. I feel like that helps, so maybe I could cover up a larger area if it's really thin, but I haven't tried it again. I should do some testing

I haven't had the paper turn yellow yet. I read not to leave it on there for a long time or it'll turn funny colors and be difficult to get off, but there was some drawing I left it on for 3 or 4 months and it didn't turn yellow.

I've kind of resorted to using white ink instead of the mask so that it doesn't peel the paper, but I have to go over it a few times to get it completely white yanno.

I hope that helps!

Wow! Thanks a lot!! Of course everything you told me will be helpful. When I have some free time and the mask you suggested me, I will try again Β

About the white ink, do you have a link to one of those drawings? I would like to see the results of that idea because I think it's much beautiful to see the white from the paper but, maybe, that idea could work pretty well.

One more time, thanks a lot!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LunaTopaz In reply to Sanaco [2016-04-28 18:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Yay I'm glad I'm helpful ^^!
No problem!

So I used white ink on this one for her spots

And for these mushrooms

I usually have to go over it a few times. It says it's opaque on the bottle, but it's really a little transparent, but I used it to make clouds on this one. The moon I just painted around.

So yeah. I feel like there's pros and cons to using ink or the masking fluid yanno.

Sanaco In reply to LunaTopaz [2016-04-29 13:22:34 +0000 UTC]

OMG!!! The inked clouds are awsome!! Β

I think that's the best use of it in the three examples. In the other two, you could have used tempera, acrylic or even correction fluid, and you could have spared the needing to go over it a few times hehehe

Even so, a really good idea that of the white ink! And what beatiful artworks!!!

Honestly - I'm impressed. Looking at this deviation, I can say that you have a good knowledge of anatomy - elbow and knee bones are sticking out right the way they should. I also like how you combined decorativeness with realism, which especially applies to the girl's hair - it's decorative, but those strands seem natural. The girl's blue eyes reflect the blueness of the background; this way, the background and the eyes enhance each other, so her gaze has a strong effect on a viewer. It's interesting how you decorated the moon with flowers; this way, the moon looks almost like a furniture that belongs to her. If this girl is able to sit on the moon, then it's not surprising that the moon is her furniture.

What could be improved? Well, those red stains on her shoulders seem unnatural to me - a bit too unnatural even for the drawing where naturality and decorativeness is combined. Maybe those red stains should be a little less bright?

Hope my advice helps! Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for the feedback and the compliments! I think I see what you mean about the red shoulder stain. I think next time I'll stay away from that.

Thanks again!

You chose a really good color pallet, and the style of the figure and moon matches the sort of surreal, cartoony style of the background. The fact that nothing has a really hard outline gives it a soft feel. I really like how you shaded the edges of the sky where it hits the page, and how you made the stars by just leaving an outline on the page. The little dotted stars around it make it more interesting and give it some texture.

The anatomy on the figure, while stylized, looks good, and proportionate. And the fact that you used a dark blue to shade parts of her, as well as making her eyes blue, grounds her with the rest of the picture. I would have added some blue shadows in her hair and along her face.
I also think the star that's on her should looks a little random, since the rest of the stars seem to be behind her.Β

I really like the flowers you put on the moon, and how you shaded them. As well as keeping the leaves a light blue so they didn't stand out too much against the golden yellow of the moon. I would have given that bottom flower some more dark shading, like the top two.Β
