Description Finally! One of the last three sketches I have left from my 10 Free Sketches challenge...

A blue roan mustang for

Vague reference off of [link]

I'm really pleased with this. I should do more ponies like I do my dragons.

OMG thank you! It's beautiful! I hope you had fun with it. I wanted to request something that you would like, and still give you the freedom to create something. I am so impressed.

I'm glad you like it! I very much did! I was in a sketchy mood and saw that arab and tried to draw him... but then I was like 'ooh! I could do mustang pony!' so I did! I miss drawing ponies sometimes... with all my dragons, heh.

There's something about the horse's anatomy and the way it moves that looks a bit wrong, but I like this. It's a stylized, slightly surreal representation of the jump that adds so much more charm to this drawing. Wonderfully done

I disagree. I think the anatomy and movement is spot on. If you look at the reference photo, now that is a wonky, off balance little arabian. It's also important to keep in mind the natural variation that exists within horses (long back, short back, tiny hooves etc) The movement and flow of the lines coupled with the illustrative nature of the piece balance out. In my opinion, *lunatteo fixed a lot of the issues from the wide angle lens and mal-positioning of the reference photo.

I do agree with what you said on the breed traits, but what threw me off guard is the fact that the horse looks like it's jumping over an obstacle (as you can see in the ref image). With the obstacle gone in this drawing, the leap has a strange and rather unnatural feel about it (as I doubt that you'll see horses jump like that out of the blue), hence the surreal feel.
I apologize for making my comment sound misleading

Actually not really... Arabian horses in particular (and those like trakheners and other types with a lot of arabian blood or similar conformation) bascule (the arc of her jump) like that and tuck up. If you look at the horse referenced, for example, you'd see the only real difference is the angle at which that horse is jumping in the photo versus this one, but this is still feasible if the jump is wide. I actually started to draw a x-country jump underneath with a sloping surface but decided not to. I think the reason it looks 'odd' has more to do with the lack of an object she's jumping

Appreciate the comment and that you enjoy it still! But, yeah, that's a feasible anatomical jump... even if the rest of her features (such as her face) are more animated. It's just a bit too 'pretty' for a mustang -usually-... But one of the young ones I trained had potential to jump like that... all tucked and arched.. so, yeah... totally feasible.
