Personality:
Zai is quite obsessed with order in whatever space she is in. She must have things in their space, and everything has their own space. She will go to great lengths just to make sure things are clean and orderly. She loves all things shiny, and even hoards things that glitter. Though she is quite selfish, there are a few people she cares about. She enjoys her more ornamental position in her family, though she feels like there’s more out there that would be more fulfilling for her, if she could just put her finger on what it is. Speaking of finger, she absolutely hates her hands, and will do anything she can to keep them covered in public. Most of the time she keeps gloves on them, as well as wears sleeves that fall past them.

History:
Zai was born in the city of Sarges into a family of jewelry artisans. Since her family was not as well off as some of the others in the city, she was forced to learn the trade at a very young age. Because of her attention to detail and her own personal design aesthetic, she was able to help her family’s wealth grow.
Another merchant came upon her while she worked in her father’s small shop, and soon asked to buy her for her talent as well as the potential she had for the wife of his second son. Her father, deciding that it was a generous offer, agreed. She soon moved in with the new merchant, working under the man on the sly. He took her designs and sold them for the glory of his family, but decked her out in splendor for what she brought to them.
She soon grew prideful of her skill, though ashamed at what the trade had done to her hands. Left scarred from the sharp metal and gems she handled on a daily basis, she would wear gloves or clothes with sleeves that would lay past her hands. Every night, she would cover them in lotions to keep them soft, no matter the cost.
Her life changed when she turned fifteen, as the merchant’s women took her under their wing in order to learn the more important skills that a good wife should have. She quickly stopped giving her items to the merchant, realizing that she could use them now as leverage for other things she might need from wives of customers she ended up rubbing elbows with at parties or other such things the merchant’s son took her too.
With her status with both the merchant and his son, as well as their customers, she soon was able to position herself as indisposable to them both, earning her the ability to have a say as the merchant’s son found a house for them in the future, as well as with what went inside of it. Zai had expensive taste, though she believed she was worth it.
She has not been married to the merchant’s second son as of yet, but the day looms upon her as her eighteenth birthday passes.
