Since the moron above me blocked me after replying to my comment, which is probably the most fucking idiotic thing you can do, considering that I havent said a single word to that person, here goes:

This is not true, there is no reason why rap wouldnt be considered music. It also isnt just saying random words very quickly, theres melody and singing in a lot of rap songs.

Yeah, I realize now that I was being a a shit head when I originally posted this, thinking I was superior or some garbage like that. A lot the music related critiques that I posted around this time were really awful and generalizing, and I was one my high-horse all the time. I deleted so much stuff because it literally made me cringe.

I'm probably going to rewrite the description for this, because even though I'm still not super into rap, and several songs can make me uncomfortable (mainly sexual songs by Lil Wayne though), I don't necessarily hate it as much as I clearly did; I can listen to it on occasion.
I get why you're mad man. I think I'd be pissed if someone posted that metal, like you said, was just about satanism and burning churches. But please refrain from using the word "retarted" in this scenario--ignorant would be more appropriate, because I was being an ignorant shit head.Β

But yeah, Lil Wayne is terrible and its just the shitty tip of the iceberg like many other mainstream "rappers". One could say that metal is terrible because Nickelback is terrible. But that wouldnt be fair.

That's literally how I was at that point in time. I thought everything else was garbage compared to symphonic metal and reading some of my old content makes me literally want to scream. I can't believe how people went with what I was saying because it was so ignorant, smh.Β
After I heard "Bitches Love Me" I was like--haha nope never again. I literally felt dirty after listening to that song, it made me want to take a shower or something. You can write sexy songs, but I dunno, just lyrics being so explicit like that really wigs me out.Β

Just checked that song out and didnt like it at all. Not because it was too explicit to me. I listen to a lot of gangsta rap so I'm used to explicit lyrics (to be honest that song is pretty tame compared to some stuff). It was just wack, fake looking etc etc cant really put my finger on it, but that kind of stuff just doesnt appeal to me.
Guess I'm just more of an oldschool rap type of a person.

You know what really is terrible? Generalizing.
There are different kinds of rap/hip hop music.
In old-school hip hop, the lyrics focused on partying and having a good time, and had nothing to do with violence, crime, drugs or sex. Disco and funk tracks were frequently sampled, often using live bands. From old school rap emerged East Coast rap and West Coast rap. While West Coast rap is indeed full of aggression, East Coast rap focuses on creativity and playing with words, and it rarely has any swears.
What you described here is gangsta rap (hardcore rap), a subgenre of West Coast rap. It gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and became the most profitable subgenre of rap.
This stamp would make sense if it said 'gangsta rap is terrible', but since you're referring to the whole genre, the arguments you used are simply irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, I can see the point you're trying to make, and I agree that it's a painful thing if the vast majority of the lyrics consists of unnecessary swearing. I just think that you shouldn't judge the genre based on one subgenre.

You know what, I can understand where you're coming from. I'm really into the genre of metal, and I do get very annoyed when people generalize the genre. They think that just because a few band are really heavy, sing about more sketchy stuff, that all bands to that. Most of the sub-genres don't. (Like how power metal is a lot lighter, and symphonic metal has a lot of strings and pianos and operatic vocals in it)Β Would you feel this stamp would have more of an impact/be more relevant if I said in the description that it was talking about gangsta rap?

Metal (Mostly symphonic, gothic), classical, jazz, epic music etc. That's what I listen to... You know, yes I do hate rap, but not all rappers are singing about sex and stuff... I listen mainly to symphonic metal as well. I listen to some pop, but mostly from artists people either don't pay attention to, or have never heard of them save for one song that became popular. (Like Florence + the Machine, P!nk, Madonna..) I know not all rappers sing about drugs, sex and hoes, but the majority from this day and age do. Even when trying to show/sing of a good message, it ends up falling flat or just failing altogether. Pfft dubstep...don't even get me started on that garbage. It's incomprehensible to me how it's still relevant.
