So that was the last snow this winter, I suppose!Here is a detail of a photo taken yesterday at Tierpark Sababurg. (Full view, please, this one is rather large)
Why such a detail? While I initially wanted to upload the full frame, I found this crop to be more interesting, more original. I always enjoy the high detail on the wolves' faces, and reducing the size of the 18MP photos to 900 pixels, most of that detail is lost. So here you go, up close and personal
I still have a hard time choosing anything to upload - it's one of these times again where I think none of the photos is good enough... I pick a few photos one day and discard them again the very next day.
On top of this, deviantART has not been very attractive lately, with little feedback and a community in decline, as it seems - so that's not overly motivating either at the moment.
Anyways, hope you enjoy this.

I love the wolf's expression, mixed with the snow fall it looks so beautifully and majestic(like a unicorn) the golden eyes stand out so well!

Such a beauty ! I love wolves' smiles. They look so majestic, it's easy to get how they marked humans imagination. It's such a sad thing all that mostly remains of it is a potent fear, though. Looking at your photos, it's impossible to think that way. All you see is...Beauty. Love. Kinda magic

Everyone seems to get less out of deviantART lately. I hope dA staff will eventually look down on us from their ivory tower and realize there's something going wrong. Maybe one day...

yup, I understand... if you get "used" to get certain number of faves, you simply do feel strange and uncertain about posting work when you get much less. You definiely feel like saving your "best stuff for some better time", right?
But there is a thing I absolutely do not understand - I used to have like 50-100 faves in first 15 minutes and I definitely had many views in first 15 minutes after posting. Now, even if I post some quite good photo of a nice animal, I sometime get like 5 faves and 10 views (!!!) in first five minutes. It is strange. I do not feel like my photos got so much worse. I do not understand it

Actually I feel like my best stuff isn't good enough anymore? anyways, it's vice versa for me: I still get 100-200 favs within the first 2 hours, and that used to catapult the submission in the popular 8 hours, and then the favs kept picking up. Now, it usually gets stuck there and gets no further attention beyond my watchers... I get less views now than favs back then... so for me, I mainly blame the new algorithm, not so much the community itself probably.
I honestly wonder who benefits from the new way this is handled? somebody has to, right? or not...? I still see a lot of artwork that stays on top...

I completely understand about the lack of feedback. And, yes, it does seem like this is a 'community in decline'. I don't get nearly as many comments on my work as I used to 3-4 years ago. And, when I submit something for a DD, no one listens. At least, 3-4 years ago, I would get some kind of note that said 'yes' or 'no' to the deviation I had suggested. I also don't see as many comments on the work by others that really should have more attention. It's sad.
But, I wanted to say that I greatly enjoyed this picture. I love the detail. Being able to see each hair, each snowflake, each whisker, is a delight to me. So, I think you for your attention to detail and the thought behind the cropping and posting of this picture. Well done!

Guess you'd love the full version then, which is twice the size and even sharper
I think some of it has to do with the decisions dA has made about the development of this platform. The rating algorithm for popular deviations has a huge impact on whether a particular deviation is recognized by the community or not, and in my opinion they have totally wrecked it. They clearly wanted to make it unpredictable, and they succeeded... but it makes no sense anymore either, whatsoever. Most of my watchers seem to have left dA by now too - it's hard to explain why my last upload only got 2102 *views* within three weeks while I have well over 6000 watchers by now. dA just doesn't produce any significant exposure anymore, so any other social platform would probably be a better choice by now. I'm not sure if the 24 month membership I bought were a good investment
Ah well. Right now everyone I talk to seems to be unhappy about deviantART. Funny that deviantART doesn't seem to take notice at all. Probably shows how much they have detached from the community?

Ich liebe deine Fotos und ich freue mich mal wieder ein neues hochgeladen zu sehen! Details in Gesichtern sind toll, man kann super gut die Fellstruktur und den Verlauf erkennen. Besonders gefallen mir an solchen Aufnahmen die Augen, weil ich persΓΆnlich gerade diese immer sehr wichtig finde. Hier kann wunderbar die Augenfarbe ausmachen, aber auch die Reflektionen und das Spiel von Licht und Schatten in den Augen ist wunderschΓΆn!
