Description Talking about a once (twice) in a lifetime shot

This is no photomanipulation Rather, this is a Eurasian wolf at Tierpark Sababurg that has amazed me with his unusual behavior many times before

He was rather excited because there were dogs present and to see better over the wall, he stood up on his hindlegs and stayed like that for a good 5 or more seconds.

This is the only really sharp photo of the sequence, and he was starting to drop back down here already. One image earlier, he was still standing completely upright and it's sharp, but didn't turned out quite as well in terms of exposure and sharpness.

I will upload it anyways... here you go:

FYI: this is the same wolf leaning sideways on the other wolf's back here:

And yes, you may use this photo for reference, read more about that here: [link]

Update: I talked to Monty Sloan... actually he's taken a couple of shots like that too of Tristan at Wolf Park over the years, and they could put this behavior on cue so he would display it on command. It's called "Observation Leap" - it's normally a rather rare behavior, which explains why I have never seen it happen before. Learn something new every day

Osiyoh! (Hello!)

May I please upload this to my site to use as an art reference? Β My fursona is a red wolf who's all feral other than his handlike front paws and this would be a great reference to show to artists to draw him standing.

It's so unique to see such a picture! it's beautiful! I love it
I would like to ask permission to use it as a reference, but not for a private/ personal drawing, but for a commission. If it's fine with, and i understand if not, I'm asking to draw the character standing like that, but i wasnt sure if it's legal according to your guidelines x:

i have a Lab-Mexican timberwolf cross that i seen stand up the same way to see over a brush row to see some coyotes running thru our place,(washington state USA) just before she ran them off into the forest. She IS the alpha female and guard dog of my 10 acre parcle of land.

Welll I read a part of the book and it said that most the photos were taken in the wild and some were yes indeed taken in captivity

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupinicious In reply to VarVulf [2011-03-17 18:26:29 +0000 UTC]

That's strange... I thought the photos were all by Monty Sloan. He shoots 99% of his photos of wolves in captivity and would never claim them to be taken in the wild...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VarVulf In reply to Lupinicious [2011-03-18 02:04:33 +0000 UTC]

Those photos are by Monty but he didn't write the book, Shaun Ellis wrote the book. And yes the a few are clearly stated of being taken in the wild.
