Why is it called the long walk?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LutherBash In reply to joseluismoura [2006-02-13 23:49:04 +0000 UTC]

The trees symbolize human beings; now imagine the exausting "long walk" of pioneers in the early 19th century making new land accessible..

For me this version works better that the later one in sepia tones. I like the 'dialogue' here between the darkness and intense detail of the tree in the foreground, and the low contrast of the misty background details. I find the grainy, 'noisy' quality of the second version distracting, and extending as it does, across the whole image, compromises that dialogue.
This version has more of the depth and stillness, that I'd expect to find on a long walk.

What i was thinking about in this image was the trees being "humanized" showing the exausting and metaphorical "long walk" of pioneers in earlier times, so i sacrifized the detail for a rougher look in the second one; nonetheless your are right, the first one matches your interpretation better. Thanks for your detailed comment Mister L.!

I've looked at both of these images and I'm very torn between them. I really like this one for the clarity and natural look. But the other one I just love the weathered look you gave it.

You seem to be a procrastinator too.

Yep, I am the worlds worst procrastinator for sure

But I'm not really sure how your response relates to my comment... unless you're referring to the fact that it took me a whole day to post a comment from the time you posted it....

LutherBash In reply to MichaelLaird [2005-12-30 11:40:23 +0000 UTC]

I meant i couldn't make a decision about the two images ( that's why i submitted both) and you told me you are torn between the two too.
I understood "procrastinate" wrong, i thought it would include the meaning of "undecided" , but i looked it up again and didn't found anything like that.
So the right sentence would have been: "You are a waverer too" i guess ( please correct me if i'm wrong).
I'm a procrastinator too, but that's a different story.

Hehe... ok, now I understand perfectly!! I think the best phrase would be "You are indecisive...", if you ever need it in the future. I'm pretty sure my German is not all that good too. I lived in Aschaffenburg and Mainz for three years between '80 - '83 and by the time I left I could effectively communicate in German, but I haven't spoken it since then. I can sometimes understand parts of conversations, but I cannot speak it any longer.

I know these cities, Aschaffenburg is about 40 mins. away from where i live.
Thanks for the language help ; and by the way i wish you and your family a happy new year.
