Journal 1969 is inspired by the Woodstock Festival of Art, Music, Grunge, Freedom, Love and Truth. It was a time of Liberation and Truth … for the soul. The era that captures the imagination of artists and musicians alike, the era that captures the romantic notion of Freedom of Love … the freedom to love and be loved.This is a mixed media handbound journal. The artwork on the front cover combines paint and ink, a vintage key, a handformed clay heart and a pair of brass wings augmented by fire. The page marker is made up of a brass chain and ends with a beautifully Petrified Wood bead. The artwork is then aged and distressed. The covers are finished with several coats of satin varnish to protect the artwork.

Sorry to bother you, but how exactly do you 'age and distress' your artwork? I am trying to make a prop for a small play and I can't seem to get the right aged look to it. Do you use crackle medium or something?

yes. you would need a crackle medium between the 2 layers of paint. But it doesn't always turn out the way you want it. then sandpaper would come in handy to further create the distress.

This is pretty cool. I am more of a traditional 16th century style person, but it's nice to break the mold and create something anew.
