Not enough design ideas, not enough drawing from life, and then having a technically ambitious final piece which had no ambitious ideas behind it. Unfortunately, higher-level Art isn't about whether you're good at drawing/painting/photography/etc, it's mostly about whether you do lots of the things on the syllabus like responding to artists, experimenting with various media, drawing from various sources... Needless to say, it annoys me, but this year I'm just going to have to conform to the mark scheme.
In the UK, the final two years of education are not compulsory (the junior and senior years, I suppose). If you stay on you get to choose what to study, and one of the qualifications you can study for is the A-level (Advanced Level) - this is basically a two-year course combining the marks from the AS-level (junior year, Advanced Subsidiary and is a qualification in itself, being worth half an A-level) and the A2-level (senior year). Most students study 4 subjects at AS-level, and drop one for A2; I stopped studying Physics and General Studies so I could do Art, Music and Maths. I hope that explains it!

Thanks! That does explain it. I think that piece is great and I don['t think it deserved a D.
