I like modern DE and love GTK3+, my choice fell on Gnome. Since Fedora is GNOME, on my system I installed Fedora

The problem with gnome 3 is that sometimes it can be slugish, even slower than kde. This used to be the other way around.

Which version of Gnome 3 did you try? I'm very happy with general speed of Gnome 3.16 and with memory usage too.
I tried recently Plasma 5 and it seems to me very heavy than Gnome 3.16

I've tried Gnome ubuntu and kubuntu a few months ago and sometimes kubuntu seemed snappier. Maybe it was just my imagination.
I'm not a fan of Plasma but I've always loved KDE back in the pre plasma days.
When I'm going to replace my HDD with a brand new SSD on my old Linux machine, I'll give Fedora a spin. Right now I'm pretty happy with Linux Mint and Cinnamon but since Linux is all about experimentation, testing a new distro is always welcome.
Btw which is your favorite distro?

My favorite distro is Fedora. Fedora is good to my eyes, rock solid and has a +1 security layer (SELinux) than other distro.
Early I used Xubuntu and Elementary OS. XFCE are pretty for customizable purpose, but too old school for me.
Elementary OS are very good for my eyes but lack in full GTK3+ support and Freya is not stable as ubuntu 14.04.
