Description Here we go, number two.
Second of a set. First is here: [link]

Gift donations for my cousin's social (which I cannot go to anymore and that makes me unhappy. :c).

Hmm. Still on the fence about this one. I like the blue jay one a lot better. This one lacks in colour, contrast to the blue jay. But thanks to the bird being generally a gray tone, not much I can do to add a brilliant splash of colour. And another thing. Ideally I should have made the bird either a bit bigger or higher up on the piece of wood but there is absolutely no fixing that now. I want to do some sort of scenery in the back, above the bird to fill the space but both my parents shriek "NO!". (Not exactly, but picturing that is making me giggle). I might add something anyways. I have until Saturday.

Durr, I really need to get a varnish of sorts on this baby. Its so FLAT. Lacklustre. Boring. Drab. κουτός
Dull.

Whoops, almost forgot. Here's a closer pic of it. [link]

Out of your wood portraits, I like how this one turned out. You've done a beautiful job with the coloring and giving it shape/depth - you've really improved since the last time. I'm glad to see more of the traditional artwork.

In an odd way, I actually like this version a lot more than the photograph. It seems to hold in more personality and uniqueness, whereas the photo is just a photo. Beautiful job. (not sure if you want critiques)

Forgot to read the artist's comment - sorry 'bout that.

I would agree with your parents. Adding anything more in the picture (as far as above the crane) would take away the focus from the crane and would make the picture look a little too busy.

Also, although the colors on this piece aren't as vibrant or bright as the ones in the blue jay, this one shows more artistic value. I think it's because these colors aren't as "stand-out" that you tried harder and made this look better than the first. You did great with adding lots of shadows and lights, and you included different texture appearances in each aspect of your bird - from the beak, the body, and the legs. Again, it's all my opinion, but at least you know why.

I'll be honest in saying that I prefer the previous, but that's only because I think herons are evil birds.

(And the colours on the other one are much prettier, as you said, but come on. It's a heron. They're not colourful birds, so that's hardly your fault! XD Don't beat yourself up on that!)

AHEM.

All that being said, I looove how the wood seems to frame it. Like...the crack bits in the wood all point to the bird. *fails at words*

I also really like how softly it's painted, especially the little ripples in the water. The bird itself looks so soft, and the water looks so smooth.

Beautiful work!

I agree about the lines in the wood, it really does draw your eye into the bird. How beautiful. I love how the neck on this one looks, so feathery and delicate. The pose is lovely too and the creature looks so handsome. I really like how you did the little cattails as well and the lovely ripples in the water.
Aww, what a shame you cannot go anymore though.

My Daddy said the same thing about the wood lines. Funny, I didn't even notice it while I was painting at all.
Thanks so much hon <3

Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed that I can't go anymore but I understand why. The social takes place at a club of sorts and you have to be at least 19 to get in. Seeing how I'm only 16, problems occur. At first we thought it was only an 18 year age obstacle, and they thought I could pass for that (apparently I look mature for my age. People have mistaken me for adults before) but 19 is a little too risky. And I would feel absolutely horrible if we (my other cousin, sister to the bride, is a year older than me and she's going but she's in the bridal party) got caught by security and ended up getting them in trouble.
So instead I get to hang with the rest of my cousins younger than me. That'll still be a blast.

I love the radial lines in the wood. Its almost like a sun beam thing drawing your eye to the bird. Very nice!

That's what my Dad said too, about the wood lines.
Thanks <3
