Do you mean a similar clay? I found my box of clay in a local art supply store, so perhaps if you have some stores near you. There are other types of clay, but this stuff seems to be some of the best.

Ah I see, can be tricky living in small towns, away from all the awesome art supplies! D:
Where I live I can buy that same box of clay, but it costs twice as much as the price on eBay.

cracks, explosions.. nope, my clay was justΒ burnt))
heeeey can you tell me the names of air-dry clays but with the same function? i mean, to do tiny details
may be i'll find on ebay then
i just don't know which of them have that function

My pieces burn sometimes too, but I just paint over it and you can't even tell. C:
The only air-dry clay I've worked with is DAS clay (eBay link --> www.ebay.ca/itm/Das-Air-Dry-Cl⦠)
I'm not too fond of it, I prefer the oven bake clay but its all up to personal preference.
Orrrr you can also try making a type of clay, cold porcelain, which is also air-dry. I haven't tried it yet, but sounds cool to be able to make your own. Not too sure how well it holds up to tiny details though.

Β ooh i have this DAS clay, and i'm notΒ Β fond of it too. such a hell material

I always use wire to build an armature, so like the skeleton of the creature, and then cover it with aluminum foil. That way its stronger, it won't explode when you bake it (or the clay won't take as long to dry), and you use a lot less clay. And its lighter.
I think you should definitely go with the Super Sculpey, its my favorite! C:

aluminium foil.. i must try that :Π· before i used only an armature
today i found in magazine Sculpey III (oven-bake clay)
have you ever used this one?

WolfsECHO In reply to LuxDani [2013-08-05 08:53:16 +0000 UTC]
i found medium white block of this clay and i wonder if i can do something like that creaturesfromel.deviantart.com⦠with this clay :з
by the way what do you use for coloring? and do you use any lacquer?
π: 0 β©: 1
LuxDani In reply to WolfsECHO [2013-08-05 15:43:39 +0000 UTC]
*creaturesfromel (which is my favorite artist on the site <3) uses air-dry clay, although I have no idea what type. I've never seen an air-dry clay that can achieve stuff like she can, amazing.
But the oven-bake clays should be able to achieve similar results, just need to bake it. C:
I just paint all my sculptures with acrylic paints, the same kinds I do all my paintings with. And then I just spray it with a matte fixative spray to seal it off. But if you want them to be shiny, there are tons of products out there.

ooh i lode her works too!
she inpired me :3Β
i bought sculpey III and it's fantastic! it's much better than DAS clay
oww looks like i need to but this spray...
aand my friend from other city said, that they have super sculpey o: can't wait to buy one
aaand what exactly a difference between Super Sculpey and Sculpey III?
π: 0 β©: 1
LuxDani In reply to WolfsECHO [2013-08-11 16:47:42 +0000 UTC]
What spray do you need?
I think Sculpey III and Super sculpey are pretty similar. Super sculpey seems to only come in larger boxes of flesh colour (maybe there are others), and I think Sculpey III comes in smaller blocks but tons of different colours.

I love how you went the "road less traveled" and did more of the "lope" aspect of the Jackalope! He's so cool looking, and the horns with the weaving just adds to it.
