That's a baby bird, hasn't even lost all its down feathers yet. Primary feathers aren't fully developed yet. Looks like a baby finch.

I am sure this little bird will not die, the saying that once a human hand touches a baby bird the parent bird will abandon because of the scent is only a myth. A gentleman that I know that works with wildlife has many pictures of him holding young birds that have fallen from their nests, and he always seen the parent return and take care of the young afterwards. The only way this young bird won't survive is if it's captured by another predator, but since it is capable of flying it will return to it's nest on its own
