i was going to ask where you keep this but you said you sold it, out of curiosity how much did you sell it for? or is that too personal?

Thanks so much Katherine. For the most part, they were pretty hit or miss. The good shows were awesome, and the one's that weren't good were pretty underwhelming.

Haven't been checking on my watch list's messages, so sorry if this is late! But congrats on the DD. I like all the shades of their skin, & how detailed you went on them. Looks like things are getting better for you.

Was this sold to a private collector or is it somewhere that it might be viewable to the public? I'd love to see this in person.

There's gotta be a way to make it work man.
It's alway neat to hear the motives for head shaving too...

Haha that was my reaction to deviantARTs recording of the camera data. Before I would list the details myself. Lovely painting, it really does look significant, but without your description I wouldn't have know exactly about what.

It's nice to have the background, but what I wanted the painting to do was have an impact that would affect people in a similar way, but no so much a way that told them that 'this is what it is'. Although it's a painting of my swim team, it's not a painting about them, if that makes sense.

I didn't mean to offend anyone or to be racist, I already made that clear to the artist. If it were one pale person among a multitude of dark/tan skinned, I would have said the same thing. I say black sheep, not for the ethnicity or colour of skin but for the individual that looks to be standing alone in a crowd that has common folk. It's not the ethnicity that makes him different, but it's a painting that has colours and composition that can symbolise it(at least in my eyes). Why is there only one dark man? Is what I keep thinking- and perhaps that it's just a coincidence.
Tell me, what did you think I meant? I need to know so that I won't say something stupid again. The last person I know to be racist is myself...

i know this is super late but don't worry you didn't say anything wrong, people just read too much into things to make problems. don't worry, i liked your comment it was some interesting observations.

I had a totally different reaction than I think was intended. Instead of seeing this lack of identity, this conformity -- I saw that although we as humans has some differences (the shades of flesh, the shape of the bones in our heads ,etc) we are more alike than we think. There is a unity of human experience and this is a more important thing to know. Individuality is fine a good, but its the desire to be different sometimes that seems to tear us apart.

Exactly. My experience dictates that community is necessary, being a part of a group is important and necessary, but in being a part of many I found it hard to navigate myself. Figuring out who I am amidst the imposed expectations and what not. Glad to hear what your thoughts are though.

This reminds me of the USMC (united states marine corps) they all stand together as one and they all have their hair shaved.

You're right, they all look almost the same. Head-shaving is something very useful for brainwashing too, as you said, it challenges the notion of the self. It may be the reason why so many recruits crave tattoos I guess.. Make believe we added tattoos to the backs you drew, it'd help them wouldn't it?

That's a really good point actually. In private schools where uniforms are worn, many also do what ever they can to stand out, be it through hair or any other sort of alterations.
