14 hours....
amazing!
why didn't you use a reflection about the bodycar (you made only the chrome)

14 hours is more like annoying I would say
Plenty of reflections on the paint, raytraced from the environment.

SquallLion1 In reply to Lynxander [2012-02-08 14:30:44 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah! reflection and especially raytraced shadow took a long time!!
though, the most important is not the time spent but the result.
(if my English is not clear : I prefer an art who took 20mn and beautiful instead of an art who took 3 hours and ugly.)

I know, the long render times are frustrating, especially because the result is not always what one expected or wanted

hehe, the look on that little squirrel's face just cracks me up! That car kind of reminds me of my old Mazda RX7. The shape is very similar. Nice car. I think your having waaaay too much fun with these little characters. Thanks so much for the tickle!

Ooooh... an RX7, bet that was a nice sporty ride This one I think is modeled after an Aston Martin.
I find that silly looking DAZ Toon Squirrel cute and humorous Short arms and big head is a bit of a problem for many ideas though.

hehe, yes, it was a fun car. Everyone used to call it the "Batmobile" haha It was a pretty dark navy blue metal flake color. But with that rotary engine, it was just too hot for out here in the desert and would die in the summer. boo!

I like that funny little squirrel as well. haha, poor fellow does have his issues though! weeeeee!

I prefer bikes for fun riding, but my current car is "too fun" to drive too... in the sense that speed limits seem so awfully low and it's easy to loose ones drivers license with it

Never driven a rotary engine myself

Yes he does, I had to abandon many funny ideas

You prefer bicycle's or motorcycles for fun riding? I used to have a Suzuki Intruder 700 many moons ago. Loved that bike. It was so pretty with a dark burgundy metal flake paint job and all chromed out. weeeee! We used to take long rides up into the mountains to escape the heat.

Oh noooo! Are your feet made out of lead sometimes? It really puts a damper on the fun when the speed limits are too low. boooo! But, I guess it's good to keep us out of trouble and keep our license from being taken away! lol

Cars with a rotary engine drive about the same. They are really fast though so you have to watch the speed. They just run really hot.

Aww, I bet you did have a lot of funny idea's for that little fuzzy guy! Naughty! weeeeee!

Bicycle's... pffftt... you tease I've had a red Vulcan, but current one is black
Way cool, then you know first hand how fun riding a bike is. I bet you can ride pretty much all year there. Biking season is only a few months here for most people.

Well, you know how it is, if one has a bike or car with a bit of "ooomph", it's fun to use it a bit now and then out on the highway
In winter we have a general speed limit of 80 kph (50 mph). Sensible when road conditions are bad, boring and unnecessary when they are good.

Kachinadoll In reply to Lynxander [2012-02-12 20:58:30 +0000 UTC]

haha Ooo, nice bike! And red too! You know that cars and bikes that are painted red tend to go faster don't you? hehe Yea!

Yep, I loved riding. It feels so good to feel the wind in your face and the bugs in your teeth! I just did not care to much for the sun/wind burn forehead. haha Ouch! It's a bit too hot in the middle of summer to be riding around on your bike though. Probably not such a great idea when the temps are up in the 100F mark. But we could ride pretty much year round so that was nice. We would go a lot of the time early Sunday morning and drive up the mountain for breakfast. There was a great little mom and pop place that made the best homemade breakfast! Yumm! hehe Nothing like eggs and salsa for breakfast! Gives you a great jump start. lol

You have a general speed limit of 50mph?? Wow, that's great! We only get to go 50mph on the freeway. haha That is if your actually paying attention to the speed limits. la la la I hope you have an excellent week! weeeeee!

Lynxander In reply to Kachinadoll [2012-02-13 19:48:32 +0000 UTC]

Red must have less wind resistance or something
Don't I know, there's so much insects here in the summer. That's why migrating birds come here to nest. A bumble bee in the eye at 65 mph, that hurts!
Too hot to ride a bike! It can actually be too hot to ride a bike ... never crossed my mind here in the north that could be the case... but of course it can when one thinks about it Here it can be positively chilly to ride a bike even in the summer
Sounds like you had fun and good times My riding season is only a bit over 4 months.

Ah, I meant general speed limit on highways is 50 mph in winter time. In towns it's mostly 25 mph.

Hihi... here is a clue to how much we follow speed limits.
My small hometown and neighboring small town share a police district and 2 police cars. There is always at least 3 officers on duty. Inside the towns would fit the cities of Minneapolis, New York City, Boston, Washington D.C. and Denver at the same time and there still would be a little room to spare! Now, manage that area with 2 cars and with very limited time for traffic control...

Kachinadoll In reply to Lynxander [2012-02-15 00:30:22 +0000 UTC]

Ooo, ouch! I bet that did sting a bit. hehe It's no fun when that happens.

haha, yep, when you can fry and egg on the sidewalk, it's a wee bit too hot for an enjoyable bike ride. haha It's chilly there even in the summer? In the evening maybe? Do you have lightening bugs in the summertime? Just curious... We don't get them out here in the desert and I miss them.

OK, I was thinking wow, must be nice! 55 mph everywhere you go! hehe Holy cow! Those poor officers must be awful busy! Hopefully they have other things besides giving out speeding tickets to do. hehe I bet they are tired little puppies at the end of the day! That's a lot of space to cover with only two cars! I hope they get a good salary for all that work too! weeeeeee! Are you by chance one of these officers? Or do you just know them because it's your hometown? Just curious!

Happy Valentines Day my friend! [link]

The silliest thing I've caught with the bike was a kamikaze seagull. It was eating carrion on the road and flew straight at me when it took off. It hit the front fork and when I stopped it was still laying on the front fender with wings spread like a fender ornament Poor seagull, but it looked absolutely silly.

No we don't, but I bet it looks pretty. What we do have some summers is a ridiculous amount of mosquitos

There can be frosty nights even in summer. Normal weather in summer is between +15 C and +25 C. If it goes down to +10 C or less and it blows from the north then one needs really warm clothes on a bike.
Some summers there can be 2-4 weeks with even warmer weather. Summer is usually about 2 1/2 - 3 months.

There is of course three 8 hour shifts of them and they've only got a bit over 16 000 finns to keep in line, piece of cake
Nah, I'm not one of them but I've been out riding bikes with some of them in the past

Happy Valentine

Oh nooooo! aww, poor little guy. Your lucky he hit the fork and not your head! Yikes! That may not have ended as well. Was he well enough to fly off when you stopped?

If we get a lot of rain we have a lot of those little rascals too! It's no fun when your out on the golf course and the seat of the golf cart gets all bloody from the mosquito's trying to extract all your blood! haha We rarely get any rain so it's normally not an issue though. hehe Just be sure to take lots of vitamin B12 and they will stay away from you. hehe

Wow, you really have a short summer season. It starts getting really hot here around June and it usually lasts until October. boo! Fall is my favorite time of year. We can drive up north in an hours time and see all the pretty leaves changing! I love that time of year!

That's good then so they don't go crazy trying to cover all that area! hehe Oh, that's not too bad then. Sounds like a nice size community and not so overcrowded like some places can be. Oh, I see....so your friends with the law enforcement guys eh? That's always a good thing then. Yea!

Thank you! I had a very enjoyable day and ate waaaay too much chocolate! I hope your day was nice as well! weeeeee!

Sure was lucky it didn't aim for my head, I was doing something between 50-60 mph
The birdie didn't make it I'm afraid. Died of the impact.

We use sprays and roll-on sticks or we get eaten alive Ok, small exaggeration, but It can be really bad sometimes. They said in a nature documentary that Caribou's in Canada can run themselves to death because of the mosquitos. I bet our reindeers hate 'em too.

It's great with very different seasons, the proportions are a bit wrong here though. What a long summer you have and then I think a part of your spring and autumn would feel like summer to me
Yup and most people live in the countryside. Only 3 000 in the town center

Nothing like hot chocolate on a cold day

No kidding! Ouch! haha, (love the pic! ) You would have been road kill if he had bonked you in the head! boo!

I've heard those little guys do have some big teeth though! hehe Oh, you guys have reindeer?? How cool is that! So that's where Santa hides them. Do you have any wild reindeer or are they all in captivity now? Just curious. I've never seen a real reindeer before. I bet they are so cute!

I do like the change of seasons, I just don't care to drive around in it when all the white stuff has been falling. Too bad it can't just snow on the yard and not the street and sidewalks. haha I would love to live in a small town or in the countryside. This city living is for the birds! Everywhere you go, you have to stand in line! boo! Hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait! It gets so old. I would really love to buy an old house and fix it all up. I built a little shop out in my garage and love to tinker around with woodworking and building things. I love wide open spaces instead of all this crowding. The neighbors house is about 5 feet away! We do have tall cement block walls that separate the homes. That's nice but still, it's city living.

Ooo, yum! Love hot chocolate! With those tiny little marshmallows melting on the top. Which do you like better, Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate? Now you've got me all hungry for chocolate. haha I about O.D. on it the other day, but it still sounds good. haha

Happy Friday! weeeeeee!

Haha, we get to the a lot of mosquito slapping in the summer

Yup, we have reindeers to the point of being a road hazard in the north.
Santa Claus lives on Korvatunturi in Finland
People from Europe and Asia come on charter flights to see him. He even has his own postal code, 99999 Korvatunturi, and gets mail from all over the world
[link]
[link]

I couldn't live in a city. All that concrete, noise, people, pollution. In summer I can escape this huge "metropolis" of 3 000 people if I want to, by going to my summer house on the sea shore
Milk chocolate We like to dip something we call "korppu" in hot chocolate. It's a dried slice of bread or bun with sugar and cinnamon on it

Have a nice weekend and don't O.D. on the chocolate

Kachinadoll In reply to Lynxander [2012-02-19 05:10:12 +0000 UTC]

hehe, great video's! So do you actually call him Santa Claus or does he have another name in Finland? What happened to the other 7 reindeer?? It must be Santa's sporty sleigh and only needs one of them. Cool! He has a great workshop and lots of little helpers as well. haha How nice that he lives so close too. I bet you guys are the first to get your prezzies! weeeee! Can you see the Northern Lights from where you live? I think they are so cool and would love to see them someday.

Yep, city living can be a drag. boo! The traffic especially. No way would I drive a bike out in it now, way too much traffic and idiot drivers to deal with as well. haha How nice that you can get away to a summer house by the sea. That's awesome. We usually try to drive up North or go camping to escape the heat here in the summer. The evenings are especially nice and cool up there.

Oooo, that sounds yummy! Of course anything that has chocolate in it has got to be good! Yea! I was a good kitty and avoided the chocolate. haha It sure sounded good though. It's so addicting. boo!

Hope your having a nice weekend as well weeeee!

Thanks There was a vid with still images on youtube too. An american from Los Angeles telling about the experience when visiting Santa here

We call him Joulupukki. Hopeless to pronounce for a non-finn
Yup, we get the presents on the 24th!

He only needs one or two here. When he goes on travel abroad, he may use more

Very rarely see them at home, live a bit too far south. Arctic circle splits Finland in half and the lights can be best seen near or north of it.

Finns love their summer houses and cottages. There is more than half a million of them in a country with 5 million people. There are also plenty of seashores, 187 000 lakes and 179 000 islands where to put them Most of them have a sauna, as do most houses too. (Sauna is a finnish word)
A traffic problem where I live would be like, "Damn, someone parked in my favorite spot, now I have to pick one of the other 20 free spots!"

No mountains where I live, one has to go to Lapland for them. Been to Norway though and they have spectacular mountains there. It was narrow scary roads there. When we watched the news at the camping site with my brother they told of 4 italian bikers who collided with a truck. We had been overtaken by groups of italian, french and swiss bikers earlier the same day and we wondered if it was the same ones. Beautiful scenery but dangerous if one doesn't know the roads and isn't paying enough attention.
You've got a huge country to go riding in with such a great variety of landscapes and climate

Kachinadoll In reply to Lynxander [2012-02-19 18:07:51 +0000 UTC]

hehe, it's so fun that you have Santa living so close by! It would be fun to be an elf in his workshop!

Oh wow, yep, I would have a most difficult time pronouncing that name.

I didn't realize the reindeer had the lighter fur around their neck and collar area? Are they all like that or just this particular one? They are so cool looking though. Oh, OK, so he only needs a few unless he travels abroad. haha

I have seen video's of the Northern Lights. They just look so amazing and colorful. It would be fun to experience them live.

Wow, I say so. Sounds like everyone enjoys the summer get a ways. hehe What do you do when you escape to the house by the sea? Swim and fish? Just curious. haha, somone parked in your favorite spot! Too funny! Here it's like damn, there are no spots left or I have been driving in circles waiting for someone to leave so I can get a spot! haha boo!

Norway sounds interesting. I've been to Switzerland and Austria and I have to say, Switzerland in particular has the most breathtaking view! So beautiful and clean. Pictures just do not do it justice. The mountains are incredible! It is scary driving through those narrow mountain passes. You could easily become a patch of road kill if your not paying attention. haha Yikes! They have recently enlarged a lot of our mountain passes so they are all four lanes now which is so much safer. Kind of takes away from the quaintness though. I've seen a lot of bad accidents up there but the scenery is awesome and the air is so fresh and clean. Yea!

We do and I have yet to explore all the places I would like to. weeeee! Have a great week!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynxander In reply to Kachinadoll [2012-02-20 19:47:27 +0000 UTC]

Nah, they have pretty much hair in neck area. Do an image search in Google and you get a whole bunch of them
Yeah, you know, has to show off a bit when he goes abroad

For a lot of people the idea is to go and live a slightly ascetic, simple, stress free life at the summerhouse. Sort of take a rest from the stress and pace of the modern lifestyle and charge the "batteries".
Warm up the sauna, have a barbeque at the beach, mirror calm sea in the beautiful archipelago, only sound is the birds singing or the sound of an eagle

Ah, seen a bit of Europe then Have only seen the Alps from an airplane myself
Four lanes in the mountains America! In northern Norway the roads were so narrow at times that I wondered how trucks can meet without breaking their side mirrors!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kachinadoll In reply to Lynxander [2012-02-20 23:13:09 +0000 UTC]

OK I see. Oh, haha so he needs all of the reindeer to show off eh? haha too funny!

Sounds like a great place to recharge the batteries. Everyone is moving so quickly these days, it would be nice to take a break from it all and just relax in the sauna and then have a BBQ! Sounds wonderful and peaceful as well. Being outdoors is good for the soul!

If you ever get an opportunity to visit Switzerland, I would highly recommend it. Beautiful country.

haha, yep, that is how our mountain passes were as well. It's really scary at night too. You have to hold your breath or you might scrape the other vehicle. haha It's not 4 lanes the entire way. There are still sections that are the old 2 lane road, but the really dangerous parts have been updated. Yea!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lynxander In reply to Raindropthelf [2012-02-08 15:56:57 +0000 UTC]

It's due to a combination of many factors... how I set up the light and materials, using real reflections with ray-traced "procedural materials" instead of faked bitmap reflections, render settings and so on...

You still working with 4 GB RAM? PP2012 might want more memory. Is there a lot of harddisk activity during rendering?
