Description I drew this for my pal Trey , a guy who I am a massive fan of, and a guy who I've been told kinda likes my art .

Keeping in the spirit of his videos, I have incorporated some newer ideas and concepts that have been uncovered since the whole 2014 kerfuffle. You may not be able to tell from this angle, but that first toe (or hallux) faces backwards. I have also given him feather-like whiskers protruding from the pressure sinuses peppered around the rostrum, a concept thought up by the brilliant Traheripteryx .

I have tried my best not to shrink-wrap him. In the theme of this I have given him thick lips protecting his teeth and smoothing his jawline slightly. 1/3 of the sail (the base) is comprised of thick muscle, gristle and fat, whilst the other 2/3 are a thick structure. This is in line with some of the newer understandings we have of this creature.

At this moment I shan't portray him walking or standing -- only sitting and swimming -- and I can't be bothered getting into arguments with eleven year old fanboys in the comments.Β

(also, note for Trey, if you need art for your videos shout me out on twitter or send me a note!)Β

Don't agree with the lips. Not on spino.

Nothing says it didn't, there is no evidence to the contrary.

But there's a strong suggestion: crocs have the same diet, the same environment, a verry similar skull shape, are kinda closely realated and don't posess lips.

I'm not too sure "closely related" is a good argument. The others are valid but Spinosaurus is about as closely related to a crocodile as any other Theropod

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDubstepAddict In reply to Wyatt-Andrews-Art [2017-08-16 23:57:55 +0000 UTC]

And we don't have lips from any of em.

Wyatt-Andrews-Art In reply to TheDubstepAddict [2017-08-17 00:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Listen, I haven't extensively researched this but I know there's a good reason almost everybody on this site (including educated professionals) lips their Theropods so I will continue to do the same

LythroA In reply to TheDubstepAddict [2017-06-20 21:33:01 +0000 UTC]

Spinosaurus lacks the someone rugose skin correlations on the maxilla and pre-maxilla of a croc, despite the vaguely similar nerve openings. Neovenator seemed to display something similar, and we know that animal possessed lips.

I wasn't talking about arguments . I just think a spinosaurus with lips looks adorably derpy.

They really look derpy, but appeal of consequences is a fallacy.

Have you seen my drawing? I drew a Spinosaurus in a similar pose, too. I think it looks interesting with the quills around the end of the snout, and who knows, it could be possible. I like it.

Recent trackways from Baryonyx have 100% percent proved: webbed feet; very dexterous halluxes - capable of completely swivelling to a position exactly like extant birds; and that swimming had been around in Spinosauridae for a very long time!

Dontknowwhattodraw94 In reply to LythroA [2015-08-31 19:07:45 +0000 UTC]

What? Awesome! Do you maybe have an article or something about it I can read?

By 'swivelling to a position exactly like extant birds' you mean its hallux was very flexible? Sort of like owls can bend their second toe backwards?
