I really like this design but wanted to ask what the vaguely triangular, almost foregrip piece is. It seems to be internal to the folded bipod, I like it very much visually but can't figure out its function and I'm very familiar with a number of real world firearms. Excellent design btw, the barrel makes me think it can telescope which would be very cool.

It may be a tad late, but it looks like it's hinged like a folding foregrip and the bipod parts can fold upward and in to be the sides of it. That's just what I gather though.

I see a problem with that one. The cannon is too long to avoid detection by enemies.Β

This one is the longest model available meant to be used by law enforcement or when camo is not necessary. A variety of shorter barrels with less resulting accuracy and firepower is available.

Hopefully, because this thing would be a problem to fit in a bag.

I'm a little surprised at how small (narrow) the barrel is. Β I did just a little (REAL little) bit of precision shooting in college, and the target rifles had huge barrels even for tiny .22 rounds, mostly for precision and stability.

Very wicked looking design though! Β

It works, it's science fiction!
The composites used for the barrel are extremely stiff and heat-resistant.
Thank you!

Does it include active stabilizers? Β That could get rid of shake. Β

For the target rifles I was shooting (which have the same accuracy requirements for a sniper rifle, but not so concerned with portability), the weight was primarily to make the gun stable. Β Of course, that's because you're holding the rifle, not leaning against a bi-pod or other support. Β Then, some of that mass is absorbing recoil, which your SciFi weapon probably solves in other ways.

Of course, even with current technology, there have been so many different advances recently that it would be hard for me to compare without a huge amount of research. Β Extrapolate that out to SciFi, and you can have all kinds of fun dreaming up exotic materials. Β But in the end, you're still slinging a little bit of mass down a tube and hoping it hits where you pointed it.

Hm. The cartridge idea is from H&K G33, right?

M-Vitzh In reply to WiRE4k [2014-01-31 21:36:40 +0000 UTC]

Are you sure that you mean the G33? I can't see any similarities... :/
Actually I didn't have a reference, it is quite similar to a random model I threw together in Pimp my Gun some years ago.

WiRE4k In reply to M-Vitzh [2014-02-01 02:55:34 +0000 UTC]

I've made a mistake. What I meant is H&K G11 prototype rifle. It has a unique ammunition: a caseless 4.73x33mm round, which, apparently, was good, but not meant for the united Europe when the EU formed, and thus was scrapped.

M-Vitzh In reply to WiRE4k [2014-02-01 11:21:16 +0000 UTC]

I see. The G11 is one of my favourite wepon designs out there, I think its boxy shape and unusual feed inspires me every tim I design something.

I agree with ~Chazz76 Β  The stock/magazine holder is a little long, maybe by a third of it's length.

The design is really cool though.

Chazz76 [2013-12-22 19:55:59 +0000 UTC]

Good looking weapon, although the one thing I must point out is that the stock is far too long even when the shooter is prone which can block a persons ability to fire the weapon properly. Other than that, excellent concept.

One question though:Β can the barrel be folded or retracted when it goes into the Battle Mode? I ask because that kind of feature could make the rifle more maneuverable when the shooter finds him/herself in closer quarters and still retain pinpoint accuracy when folded out or extended while in Sniper Mode.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

M-Vitzh In reply to Chazz76 [2013-12-23 12:12:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, yes.. Now as you say.. :/
The length of the stock depends on the size of the magazine. The bigger the magazine, the longer the stock. It is fully retractable. I didn't thing about the barrel that much, being inspired by the NTW-20, I'd say that it is unscrewable or switchable to a shorter version, but unfortunately unfoldable.

I absolutely adore your work, and that's in spite of my rigorously sticking to tried and tested shaping for military materiel - it just looks far, far too good for me to have any objections You have these wonderfully clean lines, and your presentation is indescribably brilliant.

M-Vitzh In reply to SixthCircle [2013-12-23 23:08:20 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
When I dig through your stuff, I'd say that you also have a sleek and futuristic design approach, why don't you just switch to Sketchup? The look of its renders helps to emphasize angular and modern shaping if you ask me. BTW how do you do your designs? Are those vector graphics? Sometimes making 3D models is a little overkill when just trying to compare ideas and concepts etc, so that would be also nice to know.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SixthCircle In reply to M-Vitzh [2013-12-24 19:57:03 +0000 UTC]

You're being far, far too kind - I've messed around with Sketchup before, but I find I have trouble putting shapes together let alone making them arching and artistic like yours - and that's not even mentioning your presentation acumen!

They're not vector graphics (which I only tend to use for presentation) - the designs, at least, are all pixel art - I do them on Microsoft Paint like a proper Luddite.
