Well, Batman describes Plastic Man as the single most powerful superhero ever in Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again. He's immeasurabley powerful and absolutely nuts!

Plus he survived in tiny little pieces on the ocean floor for over 3,000 years. So he's immortal too.

First, that comic is an alternate future, and doesn't in actuallity, so it isn't credible in my book. As far as I'm concerned Superman or Animal Man as the most powerful being ever in DC as far as heroes go. Second, I'd like to see this comic were he survived for 3,000 years, is it new because this has my interest. Third, Batman beats all (he knows everyone's weaknesses and has plained out how to beat every hero if they go berserk or something), and has the best rogues gallery.

Oh no U didn't!! You don't know what you've just started....

First, let me point out that "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" is a titan among comic books. Frank Miller was the author (another legend of comic bookery), so incidentally any thoughts Batman has are actually Miller's. The actual line Batman says is "He could kill us all, for him, it’d be easy." Which is true. It would be a simple feat for Plas to shrink to the size of a fly and then expand in Bat's stomach, or to grow to the size of the Empire State Building and crush him. Batman was the person to recommend him to the JLA, and stepped in to stop Plastic Man's kid from joining a gang. Batman was reluctant to help but after discovering that Luke has his father's powers, he practically yells at Plas "I'm not letting a twelve year old with more control over his powers than you join up with the wrong crowd" (I'm paraphrasing). Point is, Plas is powerful, and Bats knows it.

The comic book is the JLA story "The Obsidian Age" part II. Its at the Downers Grove Library, and tis a very good story. I think it also has the Batman/Plastic man crossover story in it.

One more thing Plas has that few other superheros have: a sense of humor. He's more funny than Spiderman, and you gotta give him some credit there.

And yes, Batman does have a plan for everybody. (See the JLA story "Tower of Babel", my absolute favorite comic book) Thats part of his strength, his planning. Thing is, though, who catches who by surprise? Plas surprises Bats and Bats is toast. Bats sneaks up on Plas and he'll still live, even if he gets frozen or melted. Plas's strength doesn't necessarily come from his shapeshifting, but instead from his immortality/invunerabilty.

In short, if he went rogue (and took himself seriously), it'd be more harmful to the world than Superman going bad.

First, I'd like to say yes I did. Phil you're telling me things I already know, and I still say that Batman beats all and there are heroes/villians (yes, I'm gonna throw in villians now) stronger then Plas. I'm sorry, but it's true. Bats deals with guys that have powers similar to Plas daily, Clayface, granted he isn't made of plastic, but he can shapeshift like Plas just the same, and is more immortal and invulernable then Plas. I'm sure Plas can be killed, if Superman can anyone can, lets have Darkseid shoot his Omega beams and vaporized Plas to a point where there wouldn't be any ashes. There would be that smell of burned rubber, why because he's made of plastic that's the reason why he's called Plastic Man. Also, here the problem about your shrink theory, The Atom can stop him, and Deathstroke with a cheap pocket lazer light. Supes or any other flying superstrong guy can stop the Gaint Plas. Any supersized baddie has tried the I crush thing and still have been beat, just go asked about Giganta or whatever her name is. Plas is a great hero, but he isn't the strongest, he said that Supergirl could be the strongest being ever to exist, but he also said that Supes is the strongest right after due to the fact that no one knows how powerful Superman really is, not even even Supes himself. So, to me Superman= Most powerful hero, Animal Man a close second since he was once considered to be the most powerful hero, but Batma= Greatest Hero Ever.

I do agree that Plastic Man CAN be beaten. I don't think "Unbeatable" is necessarily the top quality for a superhero. Honestly, if ANY Justice League Member went rogue, I think it would be simple for the rest of the JLA to take him down. And just as Superman has kryptonite, magic, and red sunlight weaknesses, Plas has the vulnerability to temperature. (And yes, Darksied is kind of a trump card for any superhero)

What makes Plas so great is the shapeshifting COMBINED with the invulnerability to mostly every kind of attack. As a shapeshifter, it would be simple to disguise himself as people of power in order to get money, or other various applications. What about Martian Manhunter? Well, you might have read the Fernus storyline of the JLA comics wherein Plastic man BEATS Martian Manhunter when M.M. overcomes his weakness to fire. And Plas cannot be attacked by telepathic means, so that means he can hide even better.

Why Superman ISN'T the strongest, in my opinion, is because he relies on his brute strength, and that often doesn't work so well. Plas goes on instinct, is a quick thinker, and adapts very creatively to the situation. Supes has a usually predictable plan of attack, which can often lead him into trouble.

In my book, here's the top 10 best superheros in DC. (Best, not most powerful)

1. Plastic Man
2. Martian Manhunter
3. Superman
4. Red Tornado
5. Batman
6. The Flash
7. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
8. Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)
9. Wonder Woman
10. Zantanna

And I'd throw Power Girl in there, but not for her heroics (if you know what I mean...)

Oh, and I've never read an Animal Man comic. Can you recommend one?

Deathwalker27 In reply to MacAddict17 [2008-10-18 03:49:41 +0000 UTC]

Okay, first that list is strictly your opinion and you have to be little more real. This is not a personal list, but here are probably the 10 ten best superheroes in DC.

1. The Golden Boys, Batman and Superman
2. Wonder Woman
3. The Green Lantern
4. The Flash
5. Green Arrow
6. Aquaman
7. Martin Manhunter
8. Captian Marvel
9. Elongated Man
10. Metal Men

I've really thought about this a couple times, and I don't know how accurate the list is, pretty close in my book. Here's my reasoning, without Batman and Superman there would be no DC Comics. Batman starred in the first issue of Detective Comics while Superman starred in the first issue of Action Comics, Two of DC's longest running comics. Superman and Batman are world renown, and make great marks in comic history. The Death of Superman shook the foundations of the Comic Industry, The Man of Tomorrow dead, no killed saving the world from Doomsday. Batman, a normal human with a dark past, and yet faces unnatural, metahuman, or criminal deranged villians. He can die at anytime unlike other superheroes in DC Comics, and almost was a way to cancel his series, but the series redeemed itself into one of the greatest comics in history. Plastic Man is not greater then either of them, they are in a league of their own with heroes such as Spiderman and Captain America. No matter how much may disagree it is the truth. Wonder Woman is in the same boat as Superman and Batman. Her comic came around during a time where women superhero weren't thought highly of. Those three are the greatest DC has ever produced. They are the bread winner of the company, don't tell me Plastic Man sells more then any of trio. Plastic Man is a great hero, but not the best. The rest of the list can be argued with, I'm still debating the placements myself.

Anyway, the only thing I can think of at the moment of Animal Man is that 52 story he had. Don't know if you read it, but that's the only thing that comes to mind, sorry.

Dude, Plas is way better than Ralph Dingby. Seriously. And he could totally take on Green Arrow too. What's green arrow going to do? Puncture his plastic lung? Seriously.

And Plas has a quite significant history too, y'know. There was a time when his comics outsold EVERY OTHER HERO EVER!!! INcluding Supes and Bats. Read up on his history. He deserves a spot at least in the Top Ten.

I guess your list is more centered towards "greatness" whereas mine is focused on "awesomeness". Is that fair to say?

Deathwalker27 In reply to MacAddict17 [2008-10-24 02:37:09 +0000 UTC]

Other then Bats, Supes, and Wonder Woman I stand by what I said. Remember I did question the rest of my list. Sorry, I didn't that part of Plas's history, but every well known hero has made a big mark in comic history, or their series still wouldn't be around. Batman was doing so bad that, as said before, was going to be killed off, series cancelled, and no one would care point. Then he made probably the biggest comebacks in comic history, you can't deny that. I'm sorry, but I don't think Plas can top that kind of awesome, in addition to that fact Batman is a human that only relies on what he posses, including his wits and at one point common items that are available to the public. You can't get more awesome then that. Supes is a force of nature, and when he died it probably had the biggest impact in DC history and hit the comic community to a point they couldn't be believe it. So, a list of "awesomeness" don't think so, fair, hardly. Your list is personal opinion, just ask some random person if they heard of Plastic Man, some may or may not know of him let alone heard of him. Ask them if they heard of Batman or Superman, well I think we should both know the answer.

Right, which is what partially qualifies the hero for greatness. But as a CHARACTER and as a HERO, shapeshifting+invunerability+immortality is way better than intelligence+strength+fighting skillz+gadgets or strength+flight+speed+heat vision+invunerability+arctic breath.

Sorry, I'm still going to have to personally disagree, though I agree that Supes and Bats are "Greater" in the scheme of things, within the DC universe, Plas is potentially the most powerful hero ever.

I'm gonna stop this argueing. No offense, but it's like talk to a brick wall since you'll defend Plas till your blue in the face, and then you continue to do so. Also, I can't agree with shapeshifting, invunerability and immortality being greater then intelligence, strength, fighting abilities, resources, and everything else. Besides Superman has a lot more powers then strength, flight, speed, heat vision, invunerability, and arctic breath. Superman has enhanced senses, and has x-ray vision, and people still don't know how strong he is, but we do know that he can only get more powerful. I've talk to people about this subject, and guess who's name came up ever time, Batman. Sorry, but now one seems to agree with you.

I know. And Batman and Superman are some of the greatest heroes of all time. But I still say Plas could beat 'em in a fight, even if he's not on par with them in popularity, timelessness, or greatness.

But yeah, we'll have to agree to disagree.
