Description
The
Our Land/Self-Defense Bloc
is tight-knit alliance of two Ukrainian nationalist parties, the more moderate Our Land and the militant Self-Defense.
The Self-Defense party is one in the long line of Ukrainian right-wing populist parties that have competed with Svoboda for the ultranationalist vote. However, with Svoboda's humiliating fall from grace, the party has taken a different tack, shifting towards the center in rhetoric. While the party still supports a Ukraine for Ukrainians, and not for refugees, Poles or Russians, the party has taken a more urbane tone, appealing to the educated classes of Kiev and other large cities. On example of this progressiveness is the party's stance of synth rights. Following in the footsteps of the Network Movement, the party issued a declaration affirming the rights and personhood of Ukraine's synthetics, calling them a great source of patriotic support for the nation. While the party has not made the same endorsement of the Network Movement's other transhumanist policies, the Petro Bohantenko has repeatedly promised that rights concerning biological self-determination will not be curtailed under a Self-Defense led government. The party has been rewarded greatly for these stances, with Bohantenko leading the alliance to become Ukraine's second largest bloc.
The Our Land party has its roots in the spattering of splinter parties from the collapsing Party of the Regions following the Euromaiden revolution. While initially the party was a localist organization, and part of the pro-Russia bloc, the party shifted its base to remain relevant. Going through several rebrandings over the years, the party sought to represent the interests of ethnic Ukrainians in the eastern part of the country, ensuring that they were represented as much as Russian-speakers were. Overall, the party only barely survived to the '50s, where it found a new lease on life with the collapse of Ukraine's neo-Putinist system. The party stepped in to fill a void for principled, consistent conservatives, but had little appeal outside of the Eastern parts of the country. To help alleviate this image, the party entered into a partnership with Self-Defense. While many in Our Land believe that Self-Defense is too extreme, the party is sufficiently opportunistic to stick to Bohantenko's coattails, representing the alliance in the East.
Overall, both members of the alliance are committed to paleoconservative, neo-Keynesian economics. They seek more intervention and investment than the Network Movement's laissez-faire rationalism and ties to the Zentrum allow. Overall, the promise of further economic support, affirmation of modern Ukrainian values and a strong stance against both Russian and Polish aggression has made the bloc one of Ukrainian's leading parties, and it will be difficult for either the Network Movement or the All-Slav Free Union to defeat them in the 2069 elections.

Note: This project uses a fair number of invented political ideologies and associated jargon, as well as references to other events and organizations. Due to the changes in language over time, some terms may no longer line up with their contemporary definitions. Some explanations for this box.
Paleoconservatism: A set of economic beliefs that are Neo-Keynesian in nature. While Paleoconservatives believe in free trade and market economics, they also believe that it is nesecary for the state to intervene to achieve just outcomes.
Techno-Progressivism: A belief that modern, "transhumanist" technologies, such as body modification, genetic engineering, and synthetic intelligence are ultimately beneficial and should be allowed to develop within common sense bounds.

From the shining mega-cities of the African coast, to the flooded streets of Old Miami. From the packed arcologies of China, to the bleak burning fields of Venezuela. From the vigorous debate of commune meeting halls in Buenos Aires, to the hushed whispers of secret party meetings in Munich. From the singing in the historicist concert halls of Montreal, to the screams over the burning slums of Moscow. From crowds of protesters in London, New Delhi, and Oran, to lonely miners on the Moon. All of it lives, all of it breathes, and all of it will one day die. All under the same twinkling light of the stars.
Our Fathers' Stars.
