two very interesting figures, I really wonder if it would be better uncropped.

What I love most about this moment is that you captured these little idiosyncratic facial expressions people have that others can relate to. The woman reminds me of my own grandmother so much, and the man of my uncle, or perhaps my teacher, or perhaps perhaps perhaps.... It's almost not a photograph of the people, but of these nostalgic memories that everyone has. Great job

Maclunar In reply to vertigonia [2010-06-01 06:23:41 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't thinking about that while taking this picture, but I'm so very glad that you can find some meaning in it that is not so obvious. It's really fantastic that some viewers have so fresh ideas. Thank you for sharing, Ania.
BTW: do you speak Polish? I see you've been born in my country

Heh, my friend told me, that this piece became popular, cause everyone thinks I captured Moby

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Xylius In reply to Maclunar [2010-06-01 19:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Moby? ahahah, well yeah I guess when you capture a star in your photograph, it does become kinda popular

Moby? seriously? It really looks more like Vin Diesel. Definitely not Bruce Willis, But yeah the three of'em are bold.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Maclunar In reply to Xylius [2010-06-01 20:03:40 +0000 UTC]

It'd go for Moby after all. Diesel is bigger
Frankly though, I was focused much more on the woman while taking this photo

Xylius In reply to Maclunar [2010-06-03 11:55:24 +0000 UTC]

well yeah, the guy on the back was everybody's second attention. but most of us commented on the guy just because he looks like a star

Must be cool if I were that guy. having people recognize you as a star and all

It's the kind of shot I want to be able to take. Sadly I don't have my camera ready too often, many times I think "damn, that would have been a great shot" when it's too late..

Maclunar In reply to insp88 [2010-05-31 22:07:42 +0000 UTC]

Happens to me all the time. But it's all right - at least I can learn how to observe world around me in a photographical manner, even when my camera is not with me.

But...what exactly are they doing?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Maclunar In reply to hotdoghea2 [2010-05-31 17:59:10 +0000 UTC]

It's a train station, the woman is buying a ticket (or rather discussing about getting one) while the man behind her is waiting for his turn.
I took this photo while standing in a queue myself

I absolutely love the expression on his face. The way the woman is standing makes me think 'Why is she there?' and 'Who is she talking to?'

The kind of photo that fills a head with questions is the best kind. Great job.

Excellent work with that shot! You have captured the moment here. You must be a master in that hip shots !

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Maclunar In reply to Y4why [2010-05-31 06:40:33 +0000 UTC]

Faaar from being a master. I still need to exercise a lot before I'll start to get satisfactory results every time. For example, I'm used to shoot at the widest end of my Leica lens, which is the equivalent of 28mm, but for this shot I zoomed to 50mm, which completely changes the field of view - something I'm not yet used to. I got lucky to get this one pretty decently, but as you can certainly see, it's not perfectly straight.
To master hip shots one must know his camera and lens perfectly, be able to evaluate the correct exposure settings in various lighting condition, be able to know exactly what his/hers lens 'see' at a moment, be able to focus on his subject using only lens' distance scale (I still trust my camera's AF system)...
As I said - I've got still plenty of practice ahead of me.
I'm very glad you like the shot. Take care!

Y4why In reply to Maclunar [2010-06-02 22:41:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for taking time to reply! AF many times gives unexpected results when it comes to hip shots.I found another trick to overcome that issue. I set the distance manually before and when I finally find my subject I try to get to the right distance using a wide lens . This is helpful when shooting with small f numbers.
