Jack is immortal, but it doesn’t mean that surviving fatal injuries is painless. When Dr. Owen Harper is off-duty, Ianto steps in to take care of Jack, washing off blood until the wounds seal and Jack is his usual flirty self.

Ironically, the smallest scratches take longest to heal, because whatever controls Jack's immortality doesn't see them as treatening. His body heals in order of necessity; life is restored first, then the worst injuries, and so on.

Ianto appreciates the time where he can feel like he’s protecting Jack, doing his captain some good instead of just being his coffee boy.
