Description Model : Kyllie Lewis

Post process:
-In RAW
-Black and white
-Watermark

Kyllie was a bartender at the Vieux Poele, but I only got the chance to talk to her twice, and we both instantly understood each others. You see, I'm only 5'1, and she was, with no surprise, probably over 5'8, what a tall woman ! She grabbed me by the hand, and told me : " You have a camera in your hand, and I know what you want, let's go outside !''. I noticed while she posed, that it was a little too much complicated for my taste, so instead and I've offered her to tell me a story. She told me that with her family in Bresil she was the smallest. Her mother and father were both models, and at a young age, Kyllie did some modelling up to her teenage years. However, not liking it very much, and misunderstood by her family, she decided to come to Canada to avoid that kind of life. She told me she had a shrink in every city she passed by, and felt she had the constant need to "model" for everyone. Basically she isn't an high heel girl, but rather a snicker girl.

I would adore having another encounter with Kyllie.

Nice photo and a great story. I like how you tell the story about every model. It's different. Makes you stand out from the crowd.

So what does her expression, hands, and posture have to do with her? Generally if you're the photographer you're expression yourself through the subject artistically.

So who is being the expressive one? Her? Or are you being entirely directive.

Most photographers do their own thing; some document the world as is, some manipulate the world around them and the subjects they capture.

I do get what you're saying but it's not a 'general' practice. These pictures are a contribution of both the subject and the way I perceive them. This means that I try to capture them as objectively as I can from an aesthetic perspective and as subjectively as I can when considering their personality and how they relfect on me.

I didn't tell the model to place her hands that way, I just told her to tell me a story in which she expressed herself gestually through it.

Such freedom allows an intimit and creative relationship between the model and the photographer. It is that chemistry that allows me to capture who they really are.

If you're not interjecting your own expression into the work then you're not doing what is considered contemporary "art photography" you're doing documentary; this is not an attack or in any way vulgar - but there is a difference. You even used the catchword "objective." You're an objective observer to their expression.

Very good expression but for me it seems a bit inconsistent in terms of light.

The photograph and the story behind it are both indeed very touching. It's very sad and yet...I don't know, it strikes a chord.
