Shane and Finn were arguing as usual as they packed up their stuff after their workout. This time it was about some girl that Finn had a crush on.

               “I’m telling you man, I’d do anything for her! She’s perfect!”

               “You shouldn’t be so devoted to her. You’re going to get yourself hurt.”

               “You don’t get it dude! She helped me get out of a really rough spot and I owe her my life!”

               “She helped you out one time, doesn’t mean you need to worship her. She did the same for me and I’m not all starry-eyed.”

               “You’re so stubborn, you’d never understand!” Finn stormed out of the locker room, brushing past a man coming in, who threw an old look towards Shane. It was almost a look of sympathy or inquiry about the argument that had just happened, but there was something else there. Shane put any thoughts about the weird guy to the back of his mind as he left. His friend would cool off eventually. He didn’t want to have to cover for Finn when things inevitably went wrong, but he’d still be there.

               As Shane walked, he started to notice things were a little off. He had to brush his hair out of his eyes more often. The necklace he wore around his neck seemed thicker and more snug around his neck. Only when he noticed his waist tighten and a breeze across his chest did he stop and look down, hand instinctively reaching for a dagger. But there was no sign of an enemy, just her normal black and green attire. She normally made it a point to not let anything escape her gaze, but now she was almost sure she was missing something. Maybe she was getting a little too paranoid…no, impossible. Maybe she was just still upset about the business with Finn earlier. That must be it.

               She continued walking and rounded the corner, only to find Finn heading her direction. Did her friend look a little different? No, Fi-Catherine had the same powerful build, the same cute hair, and the same passionate demeanor. Thinking her friend still upset, Shamir turned around to attend to her duties elsewhere.

               “Wait!” Catherine rushed to Shamir and tackled her into a hug. “Thanks Shamir! For sticking with me despite everything.”

               “Of course.” Shamir blushed. “You’re my partner. And I couldn’t ask for a better one.”
