Description A stone beside Cronan Creek, Mt Barney NP, showing how life will grow anywhere it can. The seedlings will die when it dries out over winter or get scrubbed off in the next flood - but they are trying.

No, that's not THE Barney Stone - the Barney Stone is much BIGGER [link] .

One day I hope to view the Barney Stone from the top, should be a good view from up there.

I think the rock is kind of interesting because it shows that wherever life can exist it will, even if its a futile gesture. I've seen a lot of rocks like this but with shrivelled up, dead seedlings on them however with the ammount of rain we have had this year these ones were still doing well. If their roots ever reach soil they will continue to grow - that's not going to happen because the stone is on rock.

Three and a half hour drive followed by an hour and a half walk - the plants will just have to learn to water themselves.

The really cool mushies I've already done [link] .

Good enough excuse for me, I love that area - very rough (off the track) and not totally ruined by man. The deeper in you go the less damaged the forest is. Would be able to go further if I didn't stop taking side trips and photographing everything.
