Getting a nice Fallout-Equestria atmosphere from this.

What I don't get, is why do they have to use her horn? Don't unicorns have gems that they can store magic reserves in? Β They could use one of those like a battery.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

puck7845 In reply to KironStrife [2014-09-02 07:14:22 +0000 UTC]

It may be for control, not just power. Though if you could just power your cell phone with your head, would you really bother carrying around a battery for it? (Well, okay, for a cell phone maybe, but that's cause you might want to hand it to someone.)

Ones for earth ponies or pegasai probably would use magic gems though, yeah.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

KironStrife In reply to puck7845 [2014-09-02 22:51:13 +0000 UTC]

I doubt they'd need it for control. If they attached the nerves to the servo control switches, she'd be able to work it like normal.
(my uncle and I are actually discussing bio mechanical interfaces for prosthetics. I can't wait until fully functioning prosthetics becomes a real thing.)

animefanfic95 In reply to KironStrife [2014-09-28 05:47:52 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you on both points, but we're most likely not going to get such prosthetics until maybe 20 years from now at the earliest. Unfortunately.... Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KironStrife In reply to animefanfic95 [2014-09-28 22:52:08 +0000 UTC]

Yea, it'll take a while to map out the nerve pulse signals. Β Other than that, we're right on the brink.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

animefanfic95 In reply to KironStrife [2014-10-01 16:46:53 +0000 UTC]

very true, although giving sensations to the prosthetic such as hot and cold and even touch will be even longer that that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KironStrife In reply to animefanfic95 [2014-10-02 16:51:40 +0000 UTC]

True as well. It'd need a lot of tiny sensors all over it, which can be programed to send signals themselves. Β Over all, with all the servos, the battery, the computer and programing, and all the sensors, packed into a tiny space like that, is not going to be easy to design. Β And built today, would cost as much as a fighter jet. Β But I think we'll see it happen here in our generation.

This probably isn't really proving anything but technology does advance quickly for us, I mean take world war 2 for example. We developed better radar, tanks, planes, ships, guns, and the atomic bomb in the span of five years!

they die. Or something.

is there a story here or sumthing? like did they outfit her with that robotic prosthetic, or was she look that when she got there? and does she know she can get a better prosthetic than that. she can just ask Blackjack where she got hers made. or Shining. cuz the one she has...looks pretty flimsy. unless it's reinforced with like a carbon fiber core or sumthing. but i digress. I'm brainstorming an idea...Flim falls in love with a girl, sumthing happens, her leg gets taken off, so Flim decides to pour himself into learning all he can about robotics, so he can help the mare he loves. Flam goes along with it cuz Flim said he'd charge her for the help, which of course was a lie. so he's getting a bit pissed off. then there's a fight, and Flim basically says to Flam "Screw you! I'm in love, and i don't give a SHIT what you think!" then runs off with her. but she's not comfortable with being the cause of such a quarrel, and leaves him. Flim attempts to make amends with Flam, but Flam shuts him down, and Flim finds himself alone in the world.

...that turned out darker and more sad than i had initially planned...

Hmm, looks fairly sturdy to me. I can safely say, from countless hours spent hitting random objects on my grandparent's farm with a sledgehammer, that metal is much tougher than it looks, which is pretty damn tough.

Well, if i could write worth a damn, i would. but you'd have to write chapter 2, where it all wraps up nicely. I don't know why, but I always have to have a detailed summary the length of Fellowship of the Ring to get to a happy ending. I'm better at poetry, anyhow
