Description Un être lugubre, c’était Montparnasse.

Victor Hugo,
Les Misérables.

I have fallen in love with Montparnasse. It's a problem.
Especially as I have also fallen in love with Courfeyrac and Eponine and Grantaire and Enjolras (and a lot of others like Bahorel or Musichetta...), and have been in love with Gavroche for, well, a decade now.
I am not likely to stop with this obsession. You have been warned. I'm sorry XD

Funny how the book Montparnasse and the idea I have of modern-au-ish Montparnasse don't look the same AT ALL. Oo

Oh and I don't know if I'm very happy with this. At first it felt like it totally looked like him but now I'm not sure anymore. At all. I might try other designs for him, and see what I like best, until I find my perfect Montparnasse.

You might also be swamped with Parnasse/Ponine art quite soon. Once again, I'm sorry. Wait, no, not really XD

I secretly ship him with Éponine hahaha xD ok, no, it's not a secret... but I like Montparnasse so much (I like him better than Marius  )

Beautiful Job!!

i drooled more than i expected on seeing this.
What does Ponine not see in him? is she really that blind? malnutrition can't make you that stupid.

needless to say i'll be dreaming about this for a very long time.

Hahaha thanks xD
I do ship them too *w*
But I can see why in the story Marius makes 'Ponine dream, and not Montparnasse : Marius, added to the fact that he is charming and handsome and treats her nicely, is from another world, not from the dirty hard world of the streets she's had to live with everyday. Montparnasse is. He used to be a street boy like Gavroche, he's one of her father's men, he's a criminal and a thief. So, I totally ship them (like, come on, she's my favourite babe ever and he's a sexy sassy womanizer and I just love his character), but I can see why Marius makes her dream more in the first place ^^ He's someone with a more peaceful life than hers, he's educated, and he could take her somewhere life would be easier

every time it's brought up that Monty loves Ponine and Marius loves Cosette i keep seeing them singing this [link] (y'know, with Montparnasse as Cinderella's prince and Marius as Rapunzel's prince) especially that line "The girl must be mad!" i can just see Monty saying that.

as for Eponine, i never really liked her. I tried to, but i couldn't do it. it was the same with Mrs. Lovett. I just can't stand when people do bitchy and spiteful things all because they're in love. I like Ponine and Monty together because a womanizer truly in love is a hilarious and heartwarming thing. i also end up pairing her with Javert (i know it's borderline impossible, but i like the whole "opposites attract" thing they would've had) and Mr. Monks from Oliver Twist (slightly hunched over formerly aristocratic madman who will also do whatever he wants but for opposite reasons).

somewhat unrelated: i had an A/U idea of what would happen if Valjean never came for Cosette. After nearly killing Cosette out of jealousy, Eponine steals her family fortune and valuables to enroll in a University in Paris under the name Emile Jondrette and dressed as a man. she studies law and falls in love with a classmate, Marius. however, Marius is already in love with a girl in rags and rabbit skin who carries a rusty toy sword and is called "The Lark that Won't Sing"

I think he looks pretty great !
What's pretty great with litterary characters is how everyone's version is a little different XD (and in the case of secondary characters even their personnalities have huge blank places to fill with anything you can come up with (as in, I've seen total-asshole Montparnasses and kinder ones XD) )

Thank you !!
Yes that's quite right ! I love that ! Especially with characters as shady as Montparnasse, it can change following the reader's perception... What I love about him is his duality, so to me he is neither a total asshole nor a very kind person, but I definitely think he would have been kind (but still pretty cocky and self-centered as he is) if he had grew up in other circumstances.
Tortured characters with a dual personnality always fascinate me, so now I'm in love XD I guess I should've seen it comin, he's a seductor after all ! x)

AresNergal In reply to MadoMagie [2013-04-09 22:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Well he is shown as pretty ambiguous in the book, in the end XD Like ok he's a sinister figure he kills people by laziness and vanity and all that, but on the other hand he's really nice and cheerful when you see him talking to Gavroche, and he's really the most loyal guy among the criminal, as in he's the one who wants to stick around waiting for Thénardier in case he'd need help, and we never really see him doing anything especially evil (though that's what happen with secondary characters. As in "Hugo says they're the best criminals ever but we only see them when there's main characters stuff going on so in the end they always fail while onscreen" )
But yeah the one in my head is mostly childish with a fucked-up sense of right and wrong but well when you grow up in the streets with thugs for vaguely-family-figures it's not too surprising. Gee we don't even know if he still has parents at all, his "name" is just the name of a part of Paris, for all we now he might be with Fantine in the category "never had any parents and was just nicknamed by random peoples". I don't think he's really unhappy though, he doesn't seem to want a change of life xD

The fact that he isn't perfect is probably exactly why you like him. That's what I like in a character (well it doesn't work when they're ONLY AN ASSHOLE, but flaws are really enjoyable)

I've watched the video where Clive Standen explain who Rollo is inside and why he's like that. You know what? I LOVE him now >< I can't help myself. But well, that'll probably change, depends on what he's going to do in the next eps ^^
