Description This custom handmade snow globe is 6 inches tall. Luna and background is made out of polymer clay and painted with acrylics. I used distilled water and glitter for snow.

It is on eBay here [link]

You can see a video of it here [link]

The pictures and video are not very good. It looks much better in person and even better when you see the swirling glitter.

This looks amazing! I have to ask, do you have to do anything special to the paint or clay in order for it to be okay in water?

Thanks once again. I thought you had seen her before. She was 2 projects ago. Well, a big one with the mane 6 that I just finished and the one I just started on. Anyways, I'm glad you like her. I do too!

Thanks. I'm just glad the water turned clear. It was tough making that happen but it must have worked because in some of my pics it doesn't even look like there is water in is, to me at least. This project was a lot tougher than I thought it would be but now that I know what I am doing I might make more. The make your own snow globe kits are so expensive though. One this size is about $25 to $30!

So I tried working with the Sculpey III a little yesterday. The stuff I got is VERY firm. Is that normal? It was a light yellow and I didn't think about it and I just grabbed it and started working it. It was about a 1/2 ounce chunk. I worked on trying to soften it for about a minute. What did I learn in that minute? I learned that even though they looked and felt clean that I guess you need to wash your hands like a surgeon before using pre-colored clay I'm sure somebody warns of that somewhere online but I learned the hard way. At least I learned!

yup. Those are 2 caveats to using exclusively colored clay. Each pack of clay will come either REALLY dry or REALLY wet. If the clay is really dry, there isn't much you can do other than buy a Clay Softener or mix it with a wet clay. For really wet clay, you can leech the oil off of it by pressing it between 2 sheets of paper (or one folded in half). I usually put a heavy textbook on top and leave it over night but whatever the consistency you want is how long you leave it under.
Also, yup -everything- has to be clean, Sculpey III attracts dirt like a muthaf**ker.

$30 does sound like alot for a snow globe kit :3 but it is really unique and nobody else seems to be doing it so idk if you think its worth while. Definitely something to consider.

Yeah, I,ve noticed the inconsistent textures. I've read about the leeching procees but never done it. I think I will have to try it on some of these. I also think I will have to stick to painting the eyes for now because I am definitely not ay your level on the eyes.

I am just going to keep an eye out for the sno globes at the Goodwill type of stores and redo them. If people really actually like them. I could do that Dome style plastic globe that had Derpy floating inside but she would be so tiny that I don't know that anyone would want it and she would be so tiny that I certainly couldn't really make her look like Derpy. It would just be a gray pony shaped object with yellow hair. She couldn't be more than 1/4 inch total and I am DEFINITELY not that good : )

oOoh! Derpy w/ Manehattan background :3 That would be pretty swag sir. Even if Derpy didn't float around like in the episode it would definitely be neat to see.

Having consistent clay is a really big thing in sculpting, its unfortunate that Sculpey III comes so inconsistently. its one of the reasons I prefer Super Scupley over it as every night I'm leeching some clay for the next project. Over the months its become very routine for me to do.

My technique for making eyes took me months to develop So its understandable if you can't get ahold of it right away, but its definitely doable. it just takes awhile. I'll haveta remember that, for when I start producing tutorials. Right now I'm just feeling it out.

I might do the Derpy snowglobe but she will just be so small I might not even be able to show her in the picture. It would be pretty cool though.

Right now I just came up with an idea and started my next big project. It should be pretty awesome if I can pull it off. This one I will definitely need tools, and a bit of luck : )

I'm going to have to leech a few colors tonight. I have actually had pretty inconsistent Super Sculpey as well.

I might practice on the eyes every now and then but it will just be nice to not have to paint the bodies.

You mean a Derpy snow globe? Hmmm....I might do one. This is my first time making a snow globe so to me it had to be Luna. The only other MLP snow globe I have seen was a small dome style plastic one and it was a Fluttershy.

Hehe, was making a reference to one of the episodes. It had Derpy floating around in a Snowglobe. I cannot remember what episode it was though. =\

It was season 2 episode 18 - A Friend in Deed. I would have done that one but I just did a Derpy sculpture and she would have to be so small for that snowglobe.
