When I thought to myself that it was more likely than one might think.... in fanfic, I laughed. My original thought was actually worse-- what if Azula blinded her? Then you'd get angsty stories about Toph teaching Suki to live with disability, and Sokka all totally GARRED out on a revenge trip.

As for the pic, Toph and Mai still seem so much like sisters....limited facial expression due to hair over eyebrows, sarcastic attitudes, and all that stuff.....completely awesome.....

I did these mostly to yank a friend's chain around, but yeah, the parallels are there and ripe for the touching.
