Description I made this Owl scissor keep and fob with the freebie kit from the February CrossStitcher magazine.

I used Ghiordes Knot: instead of backstitching for the scarf fringe and I ran out of blue halfway in the second of the 2 wider blue columns so had to rip, re-do and then add other colours to finish the fob as I couldn't match the blue from the kit with my own threads. I chose to finish the brown and use some of the leftover grey.

I used the rest of the leftover threads and some white of my own to make a back to the biscornu instead of using the felt from the kit as that was too flimsy for my taste. I used wheat Hoffman's batik for the back of the keep for the same reason.

You can see the back of the biscornu here:

Size: Scissor keep: 3 1/8" x 4 1/2" / 8 cm x 11.5 cm - fob: 1 2/2" / 4 cm across the middle
Fabric: 14 ct aida
Thread: 7 colours.

I was lucky I had a pair of scissors that fit the pattern of the kit so well

Thank you This pair did fit - the other one I have wasn't such a  great match, it's a great pattern and a fun freebie from CrossStitcher

That is a very clever piece ... I didn't even realize the scissor handles as eyes at the first glance, they fit in so perfectly.

Yes, I think the designer did a great job with this I had not thought of doing something in this way before. (it did take some tweaking to get it *just so* for the photo's )

Aha This is so cute!! I love how the stitching fits together perfect even without the scissors in there.

Thanks! It looks better without scissors as then you don't notice the line between the layers so much

I'm going to try that on SOMETHING, I don't know what yet, but I WILL try it

It's a fun edging - makes good grass too when upside down or makes a nice tuft if you do a whole load together - I did some on my diary cover in a curve of the snakelike thing.
