My darling bf dragged me kicking and screaming into the age of e-books by giving me a Nook and, while I freely admit it's handy to always have a large book in your bag that doesn't weigh half a ton, there is something to be said about the real paper book. Since I will be carrying my Nook around I decided it would be better off in a cover to protect it from the dangers of being in my bag... things like keys, pens and other sharp implements tend to lurk there and would badly scratch the screen if the came in contact with it.

I knew I wanted to make a patchwork cover - and I remembered that I'd made these strips of 1/2" hexagons from the scraps of the insane hexagon quilt that I'd originally intended to use as a border on my insane hexagon quilt, strips I decided not to use once I'd worked out exactly how many even more insane mini diamonds I'd have to use to join the strips to the main quilt - so I decided to use the strips to make the cover.

I had to do quite a bit of seam ripping to get the right lengths of strip for the cover + do some creative adding of the hexagons to make the flap. I made it reversible as it seemed a shame to waste the opportunity to do so as it's quite easy to make reversible when you are joining hexagons together by hand.

The entire cover is made by hand and contains 350 1/2" mini hexagons, 175 for each side, the flap is weighted with an old Belgium 0,20 Frank coin I had lurking in a drawer.
It's 6 3/4"/17.14 cm square
