Of all of my costumes, this is the one with the most personal significance. Without my childhood obsession with Sailor Moon, I would be a different person today, and I almost certainly wouldn't be a cosplayer. I related to the character of Sailor Mercury at that age in a way that I have not related to a character since, so portraying her allowed me to revisit and in a way validate that part of my childhood.
I made this costume twice, first in 2012 and again in 2014. This photo is of the second version of the costume, which I am much happier with than the first. This might actually be the costume I'm most satisfied with, because there are only a couple of minor things that I wish that I had done differently. I made the gloves from scratch, which was not as difficult as I expected it to be.
It's a costume that's comfortable enough to have on all day, yet it attracts a lot of positive attention, so it's a joy to wear at cons.
