Description Commission sketch done by * mr-tiaa. I once again thank him and congratulate him for this stunning picture of Queen Chrysalis, a Changeling soldier, a map of the Changeling territories and the official flag, featured in my My Little Pony story, Maternal Instinct: www.fimfiction.net/story/66500… In this story, the Changeling Kingdom, its military, territories and culture are based off Imperial Japan, along with some feudal elements, hence the clothing, map and the flag, which was created by

For nearly three hundred years, the Scaragowa Shogunate ruled over the Changeling homeland for the figurehead monarch. The Shogunate met its climatic end soon after the arrival of Princess Celestia's airships and the forcible opening of the Changeling Kingdom to Western trade following centuries of the Shogunate's isolationist policy of Sakoku which cut the kingdom off from its neighbours for centuries.

After a subsequent bloody civil war between the Shogunate and the Royal Court, the defeated Shogunate was officially ended and the Roachanov Restoration followed, in which the monarch was restored absolute power, as well as the status of a living Kami. The current dynasty, the House of Roachanov, has ruled the Changeling Kingdom undisputedly and with an iron hoof for four hundred years and still going strong, gradually making the kingdom a great power in the Far East of the World and another competitor for world influence. Although it has developed a bitter rivalry against Equestria, it has formed good relations with other powers such as the Griffin Empire.

The reigning monarch is Queen Chrysalis Roachanov IV, noted for her far-right nationalistic policies (her imperialist and expansionist foreign policies in particular) and well known for her very nearly successful conquest attempt of the city of Canterlot. However, her other military campaigns for territory have proved successful, now making the size and population of the kingdom the largest it has ever been.

The Royal Army, known for its strict discipline and efficiency, consists of approximately 2,000,000 conscripted Changeling stallions ready to fight and die for their Queen and nation.

So the Changeling Kingdom is, at the same time, based off Japan, Korea, and old Eastern Europe too?

That's good.

There was a idea floating around in my head lately that the Changelings had a Powerful Changeling Queen who a few hundred years ago. She traveled though some type of inter world gateway into 15th Century Japan.Β  There she pretended to be a noble's lover while feeding off of his love. The Changeling Queen meanwhile while doing this at first thought it was food. But over time she liked the idea of how efficient old Japan was run. Along with how the peasants and army respected and worked for the nobles much like in her hive.Β  The Changeling Queen liked this system so much that she brought it over over to her kingdom which was wild and still had changelings living like bugs more then having a culture at the time. When the Changeling Queen brings over the 16th culture it improves things in the Changeling Empire a great deal.

Of course as much as a relationship with a Changeling Queen impersnating being a human woman that you love. When she is really trying to feed off of you would be one sided. The reality is that the noble finds himself very weak and powerless in the poltical skill and intelligence department while the Changeling Queen finds herself becoming the brains of his 16th century kingdom. This leads to a tight momement when he finds out what she really is.

There is a Chinese Story called the Story of Lady Ren which is about a fox spirit and that impersonates a human woman.

I have this as a little back story in the flood fan fiction in that when the rising flood finally drowns Mt. Fuji and vanquishes Japan millions of people are forced to relocate to the Changeling Empire in that the Changelings are the most friendly towards them due to these past bonds. These bonds are so strong that the Changeling nobles at the time give the humans free land to build cities and factories.

Russia does sound feasible. In fact, when you look at the look of their imperial colony in the IDW comics, it gives off a Gothic vibe, like Transylvania; Romania.

And them BAM! Communist revolutions everywhere, Chrysalis is executed and the surviving nobles must ask for political asylum in Prance and Equestria. I Just hope some Ioseph Stallion doesn't appear to destroy everything...

Does "Union of the Changeling Socialist Republics" sounds good for a country?

No, I'm too bad as a writer; Too much useless detail and AU to the taste of most people. My stories are generally boring because they are all told from what you could call an "historical" point of view, with statistic and no real tale in them. Basically, reading one of my story is like watching a documentary about history : Actually interesting if you like those kind of things, but far from being actually entertaining...

I'll still try though : If I don't get mad at myself for writing something no one will ever be interested in I'll publish it.

Interesting culture you developed for the Changling Kingdom. As I read your stories, it seems like an amalgamation of Russian culture during the Czar's rule & the problems Russia was facing during that particular period of their history & Japanese culture.

I hope there is a good ending for your story 'Maternal Instincts'. I feel sorry for Chrysalis.

Part of my reasons for choosing Japan was the fact that the Changelings' designs were drawn from that of Horror Manga, and for it to contrast to the Western culture of Equestria. That and also my adoration of Japan and its culture.

Well, we all have our own interpretations, this is just mine for my fanfictions. Another real life nation that the Changelings I'm fine with the Changelings being based off is Romania, due to the gothic look of the castle in the comics and the vampiric nature of the Changelings, Romania being the hub for Romanian lore. This is just my take.

MagicMan001 In reply to BrutalityInc [2013-08-08 01:38:07 +0000 UTC]

It was modelled after many photos of the kimonos of Japanese Empresses.

As you can tell by the map and the soldier's uniform, the setting is around the turn of the century, with the Changeling Kingdom as an emerging power, reading to expand and spread its influence, wanting to "share their achievements and gifts with the rest of the world".

Indeed.

Prince Leech: Growing up we were taught that the Changeling Kingdom was the greatest civilization in history. And somehow all these war were our way of sharing our greatness with the rest of the world. What an amazing lie that was. The creatures of the world are terrified by the Changeling Kingdom. They don't see our greatness. They hate us. And we deserve it! We've created an era of fear in the world. And if we don't want the world to destroy itself, we need to replace it with an era of peace and kindness.Β

Queen Chrysalis: (bursting out laughing) Your uncle and the Princesses have gotten to you, haven't they?

Prince Leech: Yes. They have.Β

But out of those horrible flames in which the old ways are destroyed, a new, peaceful age may emerge. The night is always darkest before the dawn.

Which raises a question I must ask you: do you think the Fire Nation (which that scene was based from, Avatar) got off too easy after the 100 years war?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BrutalityInc In reply to MagicMan001 [2013-08-08 16:17:50 +0000 UTC]

I don't watch Avatar, so I can't really make a judgement.Β

If the citizens of the Fire Nation as a whole, however, regardless of sympathetic or 'not-so-different-from-everyone-else' they may be, had ever recognized the errors in the actions of their state or aware of the atrocities their armies and people had committed in their conquests and oppression, and had done little to nothing to correct it, then it may be too light. But one simply cannot punish an entire nation for crime of inaction or the sins of its soldiers or rulers, so there's pretty much nothing that can be done anyway.

That's the beauty part about changelings, they can be whatever the story requires to be due to that mysteriousness. They can be a hive, nomads, a cultured civilisation, whatever the author desires.

Perplexing, though, that you go with the hive idea but agree to the idea of Changelings having their own mothers and families (like we talked about Β on the nymphling page) though I suppose that can work.

AndrewDent In reply to MagicMan001 [2013-08-08 00:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Mhm, its still very nice

Β

I think the Changelings, in the show, are not only mysterious enough, but potentially intelligent enough (Chrissy especially) that one could very well see them living as a kingdom, with a royal family, etc. I guess, for me, I make them into a wild/feral hive society, simply because I also like to make them all the more vicious, given their antagonistic appearance in the show. They also serve as almost a polar opposite to say the Equestrians. While the latter serve as a very prestigious and well-developed society, the Changelings then serve as almost a foil, being very savage in their lifestyle.

MagicMan001 In reply to AndrewDent [2013-08-13 14:10:22 +0000 UTC]

I can definitely see your reason for that. Well, I guess it's whatever floats your boat.
