Description Okay, been meaning to post these guys for a few weeks. After coming back from the zoo I wanted to do some more charity wrap trees. (And with the recent fires the red cross is going to need a hand too...)

Playing a little with style/size/color.

So these guys are up for grabs with donations of

$20 for the copper, peridot and moonstone mini tree 1 3/4" long by 7/8" wide

$33 for the aluminum and gunmetal coated copper, aquamarine, labradorite, and iolite/tanzanite tree (The strand was labeled iolite but the color is much more in tanzanite's range...) 2" tall, just shy of 1 1/4" wide, 19.5" chain

$20 for the purple coated copper, peridot and amethyst mini tree 1 3/4" long by 7/8" wide

(plus a little extra for shipping if they're going outside the US) to one of these charities:

Environmental:
Conservation International: [link]
Sierra Club [link]
Union of Concerned Scientists [link]

International:
Doctors Without Borders: [link]
Heifer International: [link]
Red Cross: [link]

(Note me to let me know if you'd like one and which charity you chose. I'll tell you where to forward your donation receipt.)

That's amazing! What is the gauge for the thickest wire you have on those?

magpiesmiscellany In reply to FourMapleLeaf [2012-07-16 20:56:47 +0000 UTC]

Oy, memory test!

Let's see, the center is 18ga aluminum frame and the twist it hangs from is 18ga too. The frames and twisties on the side pieces are 20ga. And I'm pretty sure all the branch/trunk wire is 28 ga. (I'm using less 26, it's getting too rough on my joints and hands!)

No telling - there's someone else that does wire-wrapped tree pendants, but I think yours have more 'leaves' on them?

Plenty of people do trees, we each have our own take. A lot of people use beads or bigger chips, I use small chips or pearls because they let me do more branches/spread for a canopy and look more natural to me. Maybe that's it?

Beautiful shapes and a beautiful gesture, darling! Of all the kinds of natural destruction, fire is the one that scares me the most.

I couldn't even decide. Tornados are pretty damn scary too! They just seem so personal. Like the storms around here aren't fun when they hit, but except for scary driving to work you can mostly hunker down with candles and be cold but safe(ish). Fire comes to you and is harder to escape and tornados actively attack. It's like nature has it out for you!

deridolls In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2012-06-29 23:01:30 +0000 UTC]

I love storms! Whenever I can, I like to go to the balcony and enjoy the show, especially if there's lightning.
But I think tornados would freak me out if we had those here. Air isn't supposed to kill you!

I like thunderstorms but for the driving. I was thinking the ice and snow storms!

X-) I keep forgetting how temperate we have it here compared to over there. I was a child the last time I even saw snow!

You can visit in the winter any time you like for snow. (Maybe we could meet up in England or somewhere northerly some day!)

Oh, nonononono! I'm a warm kind of gal. :shivers:
A couple of years ago I spent my birthday in Northern Ireland and a group of former IRA guys (long story ) got me drunk off my ass. It was early September, so the 5minute walk home should have been stumbly but unremarkable, right? Wrong. The cold was so painful I think I even sprinted home, despite seconds earlier barely managing to stand up straight!

I totally understand, that's part of the reason I make things to get donations, I don't have the spare cash to give straight up.

woah this is amazing looking how long did it take you to make these? and how did you come up with the idea for them anyways???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

magpiesmiscellany In reply to random-nerdy-weirdo [2012-06-29 00:57:52 +0000 UTC]

I saw them occasionally and was always torn between wanting to try and feeling stupid since other people were doing it. But we all do it our own way and use different materials. I have a tutorial I made here if you'd like to try it [link]

I'm always iffy on veering too far from natural colors, but sometimes they're too wonderful to resist

I know what you mean i feel torn when i try to paint because in class there were people who made it look so good and i just kinda failed but i'm still trying

and i will for sure look at the tutorial but i don't think i could ever make something as good as this

If it makes you feel better- my art teacher in college told me to get used to failure.

That's part of the reason I dropped my art minor.

oh thats depressing my teacher was too positive saying it was good or she would be way to emotional so she would get angry at our class a lot of the time

and when we got her nerves all she would do was get angry and yell
