Back in 2012 I got funding from a trust to market test for a potential business. That business turned into Magweno Art Dolls and I didn't need any more funding after the market test grant! It worked out really nicely. The trust got in touch with me yesterday saying that they had a new headquarters down in London and they were opening a shop selling products from businesses they had funded, and they wanted something under £100 to sell and, crucially, that the deadline was TODAY x_xSo I pulled an all nighter to get these guys out ASAP! They worked out really well, although I am not 100% on the troll faces, but I thought I would see what you guys think! Pricing would be £20-£30, they measure about 4" across and are weighted so they don't topple over. I got the furkin (top) and birdy furkin (bottom) done so fast I didn't have time to think too hard about designs, but now that I have sent off the photos to the trust I can stop and breathe and think about what I really want them to look like.
I'm thinking about making hodgekin (hedge-hogs!), furkinosaurs (dinosaurs) and others, but they would all be the basic squishy furry ball with a cheeky face! What do you think? I'd really love to hear your thoughts and feel free to be as critical as you like!

i agree with the little feet idea, also maybe little paws for the trolls, but they don't need anything else in my opinion they are so cute

Little feets! Yeah I'm trying to work it out, I don't know what sort of feet to give them, hairy troll feet or some kind of animal feet...

The bird ones are absolutely adorable! I also like the white fur troll. I think the main issue with the trolls is that, unlike the birds, their faces don't have any kind of texture, and they don't really fuse with the body properly, as if they were two sepparate unrelated pieces. Also, the brown bird looks as if it was sitting. It think it'd be fitting to add little feet to it. That way there would be more balance between the material of the faces and the furry body, in my opinion

Wings, feet, more detail and more time spent attaching faces to the bodies! They definitely need it, I'll see how much extra time it adds on and if the price starts getting too out of hand. It needs to be low low low so gotta really think out my batch processing

Yeah, I think I'm with you,,, I'm not big on the troll ones, but the bird ones are SUPER CUTE! Especially the little brown one. That white material that's used for one of the trolls would be adorable with a sheep or a goat face! More animal types would definitely be a good thing.

Oh my god! a Chinchilla would look super cute as one of these fuzz balls. You can add the cute tail at the end of it too. :3 I adore the chicks! those Trolls are too funny. XD Love them.

Cute! I'm seeing a few comments on the border between the head and body being too artificial or obvious; maybe try in-setting the heads more into the fuzz? And it'd probably make them look even more plush, like they just have so much fluff it's ruffing around their head! Plus I can imagine for a sleepy or wintry-themed one it'd look really good, like it's trying to smoosh up to keep warm.

The connection between the head and body is kind of abrupt and artificial looking, but I'm sure you could fix that easily now that you don't have an all nighter to pull. They do look more natural with darker coloring or patterns to mottle the line.
Curly fur: SUPER CUTE dang I want like 10.
Maybe add hard felt wings or something to the bird ones (or little bat wings to the trolls and make them little gargoyles)? It could balance out the softness of the rest of the body with the head. People also tend to go gaga for stuff with wings. uwu

I read this last night and spent a long time thinking about it, yes I've come up with a few ideas to blur the edge a bit!
I love that curly fur too much, I used my last scrap to make that guy, HAVE to buy some more... Its the best stuff. I thought about making sheep furkins, what do you think? Or just keep them trolly?
TOTALLY agree and I'm so glad you suggested wings too haha! I really wanted to put wings on the birds! It does mean extra work but I'm sure I could work something out to make it fast... Everyone goes nuts for wings, they really gotta have some. I like the idea of wings on the trolls too!

The curly fur would definitely make the whole bunch stand out. I think it would fit the troll/sheep best unless you're doing frillback pigeon sort of thing (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frillback). Although now that you bring up sheep -> itty demon rams.
I've seen other dolls have good success with pretty simple stuff. Like a few pinion feathers between two layers of felt or just straight up felt wings with some painted detail to break up the shape a bit.

I wonder if having the fur more tucked around the face would help! I have some ideas, I will make some more prototypes in the next few days and see what everyone thinks, these ones were done so quickly I really didn't have time to stop and think x_x

These little guys are great. i love how full of expression their faces are! i'd buy like 6 lol a hedge-hog would be super cute and probably one of my faves.the different furs is what grabs attention, like the white one with its curls, i really think they will be a success. Good luck!!!

Thanks very much, I'm really glad you like them and their cheeky faces! I like trolls because they're fun to sculpt but I'm more into animals so I'd prefer to make more of them. Gotta agree about the fur too, I LOVE seeing multicoloured dolls all together, they really brighten a room!
