The color scheme throughout this picture is a blue color that is filled out with gray. Then the rest is various shades of that color. The color scheme gives me a feel that the background is a physically cold place to be. Be it as it may there are no ice caps or icebergs. Your art style and the medium upon which you made this picture gives me that feeling that I'm looking at a picture of a water goddess of ancient myth or legend. Which is a good thing. I like the details that you added to the ocean waters. The dark, almost black, color gives a realistic feel for how harsh a place the ocean can be. I also like the accurate details of the contrasting white foam at various places of the ocean top.
The woman in the picture is of the ocean; that is her dwelling place. She has the light hair color because she's very wise and discerning. She has a lot of knowledge about the man and all that dwells in the ocean. She's no fool. What is upon her head, to me, is symbolic of her rightful authority over the elements of the ocean. But I don't sense any evil from her. I could see her causing a hurricane because she's either protecting a people who cannot defend themselves or she's sending a storm to a people that need to be taught a harsh lesson. Or she could even be trying to undo a curse and having to stay focused in a time of turmoil and turbulence out at sea. But I couldn't see her causing havoc just to be evil. This would be a good picture to accompany a book about an oceanic myth or legend. This would be a good picture to have in a library, personal or public; or in a place where you need to study or work.
You truly are an artist when you can make a really good picture with detail in it while only using various shades of one color. I don't consider that an easy task all the time. I like this picture because it has the effect of making me think, ponder, and wonder. But not in a way that is childish or irresponsible.
I love the work you did in this picture. Good Job!
