Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA.

The pier had over a thousand people on it and as you can see the afternoon sun was casting long shadows. When I saw the vendor from 30 feet away, I thought what a great subject - - similar to work getcarter used to post here- - and how great it would be if I could isolate the stand from all the people on the pier, which seemed impossible. But as I crossed in front of it, it was as if the sea had parted and there was nobody and no shadows in front of the stand. Even more fortunately the vendor was next to the stand - - -just like an old getcarter shot - - and, I thought even better, he was bending over with his backside to the camera! I had 20 seconds to knock off probably six frames and this is the last one. This image is full frame without a crop and really shows off the incredible performance of the LeicaQ.
