Description While I'm a little unsure of the digitized "flames," I really liked how this redesign turned out. I only recently thought of allowing its wiry limbs to twist into more solid "arms" with "hands."

For those uninitiated, this is the ONI Virus, which comes from the NML universe.

It is also an otherworldly contender in WorldCross: HexVortex -- the ONI Virus and Nubi Ankhara are considered "destined rivals."

Rather unstable and corruptive -- sometimes unintentionally.

See, now I was sure that NIKO.NML would have been considered, as she has a bit of a history with you. But, I actually forgot that ONI did as well.

Indeed. The thing is, both Nubi and ONI are related to NML, so it seemed fitting that they ended up rivals here.

Also, as much as NIKO.nml would've been the first choice, you can't deny that ONI would be a more interesting character choice just by how different it is.

Yes actually, I do remember you mentioning Nubi being related to NML before now that I think about it.

And yes, I agree. ONI would make a more interesting fighter.

Yes. Looking at older files, I only now realize that this image is actually from Nubi's tenure as a fellow NML, despite the label on the site being her name from later eras.

Indeed, she was NUBI.nml, who at the time resided on a deserted web site. She was initially one of the enemy characters.

Heh, not much of a cyber outfit like the other NML characters.

Given the not so friendly expression on her face, I'm not surprised.

NML went through quite a huge change. The NML files were either "domesticated" (safe for the system) or "wild" (potential threats) back then; years later I reexamined the dormant world and reworked it to make the threat more familiar, and ONI was soon introduced (...or rather, reincarnated from a different concept.)

That's sort of the interesting thing about Nubi and ONI; they're both characters that were reincarnated as a different sort of entity. The difference is that NML is Nubi's "past," but ONI's "present.'

Yeah, Project Genji . Although that picture is a bit vague on the details of his origin other than being created by somebody namedΒ Rensa Turikanu.

Genji, as it was known back then, was part of a universe known as Denseitzu. (There are still traces of that universe in character art on Side 7; just find things referring to Genji, Akira Hayami and Shiro Tsutomu.) It had some interesting ideas, but telling such a story in a good way outside of a video game dream couldn't really happen. But Genji in itself was such a memorably striking design that when I decided to rework NML years later, I eventually reassigned it as a computer virus named ONI (or "demon") and altered some of its design and personality to better fit its new role.

It has undergone at least three design changes including this newer one, which has had as many significant alterations as the immediate previous one. The creation of Ketsuban-M and occasional exposure to what the internet identifies as "creepy" sparked some of these new alterations; it's meant to be bizarre and somewhat creepy in its appearance, yet if it spoke or acted in potentially ridiculous ways it wouldn't seem entirely out of place. It's part of why the deviation is titled as "OMAE GA HOSHII," or, translated, "I WANT YOU." In the native tongue it could be construed as somewhat perverse (it does partly reference Puyo Pop's character Schezo), but seeing this thing say such a phrase makes it more unsettling, I think.

That looks like the Japanese word for "Legend" but spelled differently. And there might be some traces, but certainly not easy to find beyond that one picture given most of it is Pokemon or TUL related.

In terms of trying to make it look creepier I can tell you're really focusing on the eyes. Which I can tell is based pretty much on every creepypasta ever. Given that it's a bit impractical to try and make hyper realistic creepy eyes for a character like this I think the next thing to look at doing would be to present this character in a darkly lit setting. And Google Translate wasn't too far off when I attempted to translate that phrase... it at least got the word "You" out of it.

There are only a few...

Regarding ONI's new set of eyes, they actually aren't meant to be "hyper realistic." They're both solid red, with rings that denote its current line of sight. Speaking of which, that's another thing that changed; ONI's eyes were originally very flat and doll-like, never moving or blinking and forcing more of its body to move in order to see other angles. The eyes can now move around to see things without requiring more movement than necessary (but they still don't blink).

Oh wow! I always assumed he was an unused TUL character.

Oh no, I was mentioning how I could see how you were trying to present the eyes. I'm just pointing out how many creepypastas tend to go for that "hyper realistic" look, and how it wouldn't exactly be practical to use that for a machine... or in this case a piece of code. But actually, now that I'm thinking about it, it almost seems like you're going for a sort of HAL 9000 look.
