I think my only problem with it was that the used the names of the original manga/anime characters. If they gave their characters their own names then people would have probably liked it. I mean, this could have been set in a time after Light Yagami. They could have changed the Netflix Light's name to... Lucas! There, that fixes it. LUCAS Turner (how many guys do people know named "Light"?). Since "L" is just a letter to symbolize the geniuses from the Watari orphanage--it works.

People only hate it because they named their main character Light. And they are pretty mad that he is nothing like the Light from the anime. Well.... It's probably the only reason why I don't like it 😕 that one detail ruins the whole thing really

I enjoyed the movie and surprisingly so did the original creator's of death note!,

But yeah Light telling mia about the notebook was idiotic!

Light you got yourself into that mess with mia because you let your weiner do the talking!

That’s interesting, your work made me a little curious about the film. Maybe I’ll watch it one day, if I really have nothing else to do.

Obviously I’m part of those people who don’t see the point of that film in the first place (except to make easy money maybe ?)

Apart from that, I think you did a great job, the whole piece is very well constructed and the drawings are very nice

I laughed at the ferris wheel scene. I wanted them all to die and the shinigami be the one to win and drop the book in front of someone else. However, I can't say it was as bad as The Last Airbender movie. No movie adaption could have been as bad as that one.

sansskeleton98 [2017-09-20 18:00:49 +0000 UTC]

The movie is objectively bad, it tries to be an original Death Note and be the Manga/Anime Death Note at the same time! If you are gonna do the same as the manga do it, if you are gonna do something original do it, but dont do things halfway

My main and ultimate issue with the movie was the horrendous overdone girlfriend bit and how ridiculously stupid and average Light was. I don't care about the differing plot line, just the plot line, even under any other guise of a title, was bad and bland. This comic made me laugh though, LOL.

I wasn't good but It wasn't as bad as it could have been *seeing Dragon Evolution* Like the first half was filled with stupid moments from Light but the second half of the movie and the ending was better imo. The Light reaction was great tho

While the Manga was a bit too wordy for me, in that I felt the whole of it was L speculating and Light questioning his every move without either of them actually doing anything. I loved the Anime, it was perfect and the ending made me cry for a whole 15 minutes.

I also really enjoyed the Netflix movie. I said it and I'm not sorry for it! I think watching it, it's important to remember it's suppose to be a completely new take on Death Note, not a scene for scene live action remake of the Anime. Did I spend a lot of the movie saying "Light wouldn't do that" or "Misa's not even like that" and "Light doesn't like Misa, she's just a means to an end". Yes, I did. But I enjoyed it for what it was, and it was a fun movie. I very much hope they make a second, despite all the hate.

I completely understand why people hate it, but I think they need to lighten up a little and stop comparing it to Anime and let it be it's own thing.

I will admit I didn't like the anime and never read the manga but at least I respected Light Yagami as much as I hated him. Light Turner on the other hand made me laugh when I saw a gif of him meeting Ryuk. Sure its the "real" human reaction but Light was suppose to be more cool and collected then the. Hell, the Yagami's reaction looks more believable in comparison and Yagami DID jump out of his chair, throwing in to the ground in the process, when he first saw Ryuk.

P.S. sorry if I'm spelling the shinigami's name wrong. Don't want to google it.

I love the anime and manga as well as the live action Japanese movie so I was willing to give this one a chance to see how an american take on it would be. It was a major disappointment. The only good idea that came from any of this mess was Dafoe playing Ryuk, that's it.

that was an interesting point of view on the movie. I personally loved the anime more, but after seeing the movie I thought the creators were pretty spot on with an American high schoolers getting ahold of that book

my main critisism comes from YMS's video on this, just because it is a new medium and a remake doesnt excuse it from shittily adapting it, like he said "why are you going to adapt something but take away all the themes and aspects that worked, if you're going to remake something make it better or even evolve it" the main gripe is they used the names and basic plot to pull in already existing fans but didnt really do anything w the movie but make it a modern teen movie w some gore

TLDR; I honestly get people liking it bc people's taste differ, but you cant really excuse the fact that this was made more for the money than out of love or a real desire to adapt the story to america

Hahahahaha that was hilarious.

I honestly haven't seen the entire film yet ( but have seen the L scene with Light, and the scene where Light freaks out seeing Ryuk which made me laugh my ass off) I'll probably watch it sometime soon.

Though in my personal opinion, the film won't compare to the 2006 live action Death Note films.
