Description I've been bitten by the anime bug pretty hard lately. I picked up some great art books at the anime con I went to last weekend. One in particular I'm pretty fond of is a sketchbook by director Masami Obari (you know, the guy who did the Fatal Fury movies). I decided to veer stylistically more in this direction, so for any of my friends who don't like anime/manga, sorry. I still went full-ink on this drawing, filling on all the blacks and stuff, then tinted it in Photoshop to not be so dark.

This is a new OC I haven't really named yet. Her costume is loosely based on a court jester's outfit, hence all the little triangle tassles.

I love how, even when you pursue one of the most dreadfully overused artistic styles, your work still ends up looking totally original. I can definitely see the anime influences here, but much of the picture is still very characteristic of your own style.

Your eye for detail still leaves me in awe, by the way. I stared at this picture for so long, trying to take everything in, that I think my brain started to bleed...but in a good way. Must fav!

Thanks for that! I still think the torso is a little overworked, or at least overshadowed. There's a lot going on there with the clothing and strings and things so I'll have to be more careful around that area next time. I also decided to draw on larger paper this time so I could have room for the little details. Hair is fun to draw.

I agree; the torso was one of the parts that I couldn't quite figure out at first, just because it was so detailed.

Limned so beautifully; agile, strong and true...

I hope to do more with this style and character in the near future. I think the torso gets a little busy so I'll maybe try to accentuate things more clearly next time.

Have you ever been interested in working in animation?

I've always fantasized about working in animation. But technically I've never really done it and wouldn't really know where to begin. For the time being I'm still sharpening my plain old drawing abilities. I'd like to get a good copy of Flash sometime and play around with it.

I get the feeling you'd have a certain genius for it...

Non-black shadows against white always have this gorgeous glow to them. This is really beautiful. Gorgeous details!

Great, detailed work as usual. I'm curious to see what she looks like in color.

Thanks! I'm curious too, I haven't done any color studying yet. Eventually it'll happen.

I like all the details. This is just as wicked with ink as your work always is.

Thanks. I was looking through the artbooks and wondering how they could cram so much detail in their hair and clothing and stuff, and it occurred to me to try drawing larger. It seems like an obvious solution, but I'm so use to drawing on small sheets that I don't think about the obvious solution very often.

I'm a big fan of drawing big myself. Only it gets pretty inconvenient when it comes time to scan. It's a trade-off.

True, I hate having to scan a picture more than once, but it's necessary until I get a huge professional quality scanner, thirty years from now.

Yeah, I hope to have my own big scanner in thirty years too.
