Description This is kinda a long way to draw a page but upon request of my editor he wanted me to write in the dialogue so that he can see how the flow of the page is and how it reads. This way my editor was also able to see whether some of the dialogue could be taken out or moved to other panels.I kinda like the control of where the balloon placements go and I think as a result words and pictures in this case is much more in synch. Never really done this before so I have much much more respect now for leterrers! It was rewarding in the end to have been part of other aspects aside from just drawing but it's a heck of a lot more work! Bless my editor of his patience! Oh and if I haven't said it enough times the book comes out in France May 21st 2008!

Wow, man. This is really beautiful.
How long would you say it took you to hook up the final page?

hmm..really hard to say as I jumped around from page to page. I'd say this one took me about 8hrs or so.. . Most of the work on this was done in the layout stage from there on out I just lightboxed it.

the work is impressive...
will the book be inked or just pencil + colours ?
how many time did you spend on that book ? (sorry for all the questions )

straight to colours. I think I worked on the book for over a year. There were some stops and goes as I started Iron and the Maiden shortly after. My editor was awesome and really understanding!

considering the work done and that you've done other books in the meantime, that's pretty quick ! even quicker than some french artists who draw 45 pages a year.

well it was pencil only and I noticed most european artist do the whole thing usually from pencil to ink to sometimes colour. I'd love to do that one day! then I'd take 2 years or more!

yeah, but many artists -when they don't do the color and only deal with the B&W- do a quicke sketch and go all the way with the ink.
I guess it's quite the same for you (maybe it's not), doing a sketch then re-working on it with a sharp pencil, and cleaning, etc...

it's quite the same proces I think... then it depends on the way you prefer working. when I see the cover for LEGION 39, the inker have done an incredible job (I don't want to minimize it) but your pencil was, for me, equal to an inked piece. maybe if you had to ink it by yourself you spent less time on the sketch.
basically I'm just trying to say that everyone has his own technique and once you found it, it's not that long (and my english is so lame... but in my ehad and in french, it's pretty intelligent )

oh, and don't worry if one day you need 2 years to make a book in France, you won't be the first, we're pretty used to that and we won't mind as long as the result is awesome

Was there a inker on this project, or did it go right to color?
