Description There we go. This is my tutorial on what I know how to draw best - the female anatomy ^^.
Now I'm not claiming to be a pro at this. By all means no. I'm just providing people with some pointers. One can find good in the weirdest of places. Perhaps even seeing a flaw in my design will make you realize a mistake you're doing too?
Or it could help you with something you've always been stuck with.

In any case, I looked for quite a few tutorials, looked at countless references, be it from photos of females, or drawings of females from artists whose anatomy style I liked
Heck I've even taken some bone-structure as reference, always thinking - OK, how does this fit into this...
So I thought - I need to give something back.

Keep in mind that this is just one of a few shapes of the female body - it can have different proportions, different build.
This is for an "hourglass" type.

Hope you all can find something helpful here ^^
Also, don't be afraid to critique this. I'd love to improve as well :3

Hi there,
I'm glad you enjoyed this old little tutorial of mine.
As an answer to your question - I actually don't feel like I am in a really good position to give lessons to people. I'm still learning and don't know a LOT. I'd rather not mislead beginning artists

Was it needed to be a so rude to this artist? How about instead of making an obnoxiously rude comment you correct the artist on what you think needs to be done. In fact, this tutorial is perfect for beginners who have no idea what the Hell they're doing. It's a great tutorial to start with. I suggest you clean up your attitude.

Omnomnomnomnivore In reply to Vilali [2015-06-07 03:37:38 +0000 UTC]

Pardon. But?? Did you look at when this comment was posted?? Did you really feel the need to snark a comment that's over three years old?? Yes you're right it's a pretty rude comment but it's kind of moot with the amount of time between when it was made and now,

Vilali In reply to Omnomnomnomnivore [2015-06-09 13:13:29 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't matter if it was three years ago, it still wasn't needed and you could have at least answered the girl's question or apologized.

Indeed this tutorial has pretty much no place in the sights of advanced artists.
Though people have told me it's helpful, thus not entirely as bad as you say.

In any case, perhaps you could tell me what you think the flaws are? ( I was already informed about the lack of different body shapes, the flawed elbow placement, the not-constant placement of the widest part of the hips and the flawed leg length ).

ColletteRen [2012-05-01 19:11:37 +0000 UTC]

this may be helpful but I can't help but notice a few things that are off. The lower section of the legs are to short in contrast to the upper legs. The middle section on a female and male for that matter is not the crotch area per se but the widest area of the hips. This can sometimes fall on the same line or lower depending on the body type. Taller women tend to have their middle line being lower because their legs are longer. Shorter women will have it where you have placed it, sometimes can be lower as well.

Another pointer to help you out is that the elbows do not fall on the same line as the belly button. I do notice you are using a curve to find the places but it's actually easier if you use the thinnest part of the waist as the guide. Again it depends on the shape of the women you are trying to draw.

This guide seems to be more helpful in drawing a women from a straight on view as if she were standing as a robot. Most people who draw will want to draw a more organic pose. I think using the 8 heads "rule" isn't always going to get the job done, however if you want to use it you can don't get me wrong but most people do a stick man sketch underneath to help then pose and proportion the person they are drawing.

You seem to be good at the basics but it seems you forget to add a variation in scales for different shaped people. I think this tutorial could be better if at the end you showed finished versions of different shapes and sizes of girls, this would make it more helpful to a lot more people.

Mancoin In reply to ColletteRen [2012-05-01 19:28:52 +0000 UTC]

Ooh - Thank you ^^

I'll try to take in what you've said ( quite a few good pointers indeed )

I will say I don't consider myself very good at drawing females ( especially if I have to differentiate some parts from the "norm" that I've learned so-far ), just that I've seen some people who'd probably still benefit from what I've gathered, seen, found and such.

I need a lot more practice to be able to draw different shapes, heights, body builds and whatnot. When I can draw them nicely, I'll make another tutorial, summing up any progress ^^
Speaking of which, perhaps you have ( or know of ) some tutorials that do cover different body shapes and sizes ?

Glad you found it helpful and of course this tutorial will be helpful to lower level artists.

As for a tutorial by someone else the best I can offer is this blog: [link]

It's called Drawsh and is in short dedicated to figure drawing. They have some good tips that may be of use.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mancoin In reply to ColletteRen [2012-05-02 13:38:48 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps I should rename the tutorial to "Beginer guide".
I'm sure it would do wonders to people who have very little experience with the female body ^^

Also, is Drawsh something like a "pay-site"? I hope not
Though Thank you in advance for the link ^^
