Sonic 50 Theme Challenge - Princess Sally Acorn and Ray the Flying SquirrelMost continuities list Sally's species as "squirrel." That always bothered me, since she certainly doesn't look like any of the most common squirrel species...
So I had a little fun with the comparison between Sally the "squirrel" and Ray the squirrel. Personally, I think she would look cute with a big fluffy squirrel tail like his.

She's a chipmunk, and he's a squirrel. That's why she does have a short tail while Ray have a long tail.

Some real life squirrels (or some kind of animal) is going into our garden and eating some of our tomatoes. I saw one scurry up a tree with a round green thing in it's mouth.

I meant the squirrel that stole my tomatoes. Sally's dad's name is Nigel? Probably a reference to the voice actor in the cartoon. He also did a character called Nigel Thornberry.

Does Sally's mom have a new name or is she even present? I think her name was Alisha because in the cartoon that was Sally's middle name. Although once in the comic it was spelled out "Elisha" on her medical records when she "died".

I think it's funny how some people mistook Ray for Tails.

Well, I'm not sure as to what species Sally would be as a solid matter, but you did a nice job on drawing them both and ray looks very cute in this picture too.

Some types of squirrels do have small tails like Sally.

There are a few, but not very many...some continuities do list her as a chipmunk, or even a chipmunk/squirrel hybrid.

Some sources even refer to her as a "ground squirrel," wich is usually what I stick with. Still, I admit her species is rather debatable. lol
Of course, quite a few Sonic characters hardlly resemble the species they are. (Like Knuckles the echidna for instance.)
