Description Some recent, fairly finished artwork we used as an incentive for Memoria. ([link] )
It's Harriet and her three closest friends in 1960s girl group mode. They sing about heartbreak, running away from home, and teenagers dying in horrible car crashes.

If this was some alternate reality, this group would have so much drama! Emma would always be trying to usurp Harriet's position and take it for herself, Zoe would cry a lot and do whatever anybody told her to do, and Claire would try to keep the peace but ultimately doesn't want to deal with any of it,

This drawing was mostly based on the Shangri-Las, and I was listening to that type of music the whole time I was drawing this. It was lots of fun. Powerpuff Girl colors, go!

Clever idea! I have to say Harriet has really grown on me. She's a cool heroine.

Don't forget that Claire wouldn't be wearing her glasses and would most likely fall over during performances~

I just noticed that their colors actually do correspond together!
But I promise Memoria art, because I made sketches while on my trip that I surely bet will be colored in...

... I might pee myself.

Actually, the colors weren't completely intentional until I got around to making this drawing. Originally her friends didn't seem like they'd be as prominent as they are so I didn't plan color schemes for them, exactly. They kind of just, developed on their own into the typical combination I've seen a lot of shows and etc. use. I guess it just works well.

Ack! don't pee! I... um... will make the art uh, "semi" good then?
Nah, I'll make it prettyful :]

It's kinda funny how the group of girls (in any book or show) will always have the pink girl, green, blue, yellow etc. I don't mind it, I just think it's hilarious to see that!

Seriously, the early sixties had an obsession with those type of songs. I can think of about 6 off the top of my head, and I'm sure there were more.

hmm, I wonder why. Was this around the time when teenagers could obtain licenses so everyone was crashing into everyone else? I seem to recall that older cars were one step up from deathtraps, so I would suppose that this was probably what was going on. It wasn't so much an obsession rather than talking about what was all over the news at that time, I suppose?

Mm, I think that played a big part. The 1950s and on is when the youth culture really started to develop and thrive, which music both influenced and was influenced by. Teens were more independent and so they would drive themselves and go out on the town with their friends and set up dates. I believe "story" songs were just becoming popular as well, so the songs reflected the changing times.
Or something like that.
Either way, cultural history is pretty interesting.

That's nice. This sorta reminds me of watching the movie 'Grease 2' when I was younger. That movie was good! X3
