I am making a manga, and this is the first character that I am developing. His name is Kojisai Taisu. If you like what you see, this is one in a sequence. Feel free to use the links below to see more of him.<--previous<-- -->next-->
I realized that (when I was getting rammed by a kitty) I had not drawn Kojisai with a cat yet and I figured this is the best way to show how cats react to his presence. They don't seek him out, but if he is around, they do like to purr and cuddle... and it is mildly annoying to him at times, even though he does like cats.

Kawaii!! It's so adorable.The kitty obviously really likes the guy. I loved the way you've drawn the guy's hair and eyes. Such a perfect pretty kitty sketch. Ahh, but what can I expect after all you are my sensei!! And all your art work is awesome anyway.

So a lot of people like to ask when they se something that they like, how did you do that... em... I always answer them, whether they are a student or not, so I guess what I am saying is if you see something you want to know how to do, you can always ask. ^__^ I still don't know what kind of instruction you would like.

Well...I can't really understand how to color my drwings. That's why I shade them in and keep them as sketches. It would be nice to learn though...I'm no good at digital art as I'm not very sure-footed around photo-shop and my computer bullies me.

When I started my computer bullied me too and photoshop was confusing. The best way to fix that is to mess with it until a love hate relationship has been established. I can teach you about using photoshop if you would like. Want some instruction in a note?
an assignment. I want you to draw a character... any character you like, from a pose you do not see in any pictures of that character, and I want you to use the things around you as reference material to get things right. That means, ins tead of just drawing clothes the way anime clothes look... as you thing, use a real piece of cloth to see how it looks and how its folds seem to appear. If you need a reference for the human figure, use your own in a mirror or a photo or magazine, It doesn't have to look like it is real, but it has to be guided by reality. This will be the honor system, and I trust that you will not copy something directly out of official art from an anime. I want you to write in your artist's comments what you did and what you used.
An example is that, when I drew the picture of the flying cat, I used a realk cat on my lap and ,my hand holding a brush so that the hand would look correct as references. To study folds in material, look at your own cloths or you could drape a sheet over a chair that sort of thing. Right now, just to the lines, don't shade it (yet). I would like to see what you can do with that as a guide. And I would also like you to submit it into scraps as you are working on it if you end up taking a long time to try to get it right, and that way I can help you along the way as you make it. The theme is that I want you to use reality to draw anime. Trust me, it works. Don't worry about a background unless you want to.
