I don't blame Sydney; it must be hard listening to that all the time. They should know better than to talk like that around her, especially since it's obvious she has a disability so it's not like they don't know. It's very insulting for someone with a disability to hear that and I can understand why she's angry. Good job showing how ableism is part of our society.

Syd has a temper, a result of a life of being patronised and having to tackle wheelchair ramps. She's incurably stubborn and acerbic. She'd probably see an apocalypse as just desserts.

These tones are actually pretty easy to manufacture. I use two varieties - those set as a pattern, and some that i've made specially and copypasted.
FOR THE FORMER: fill a large canvas (set to greyscale) with the shade of grey you require. Then select Image>Mode on the top menu, and convert the canvas to a Bitmap. A little box will pop up; under Method, select Halftone Screen. Another box will emerge, asking about the Frequency, Angle and Shape of the dots required. Here, i use dots with a lower frequency in the foreground (larger dots, and fewer per inch) and a higher frequency in the background (smaller dots, but more per inch). You can also change the angle and shape of the rows of dots. Here i've used round, and 45 degrees.
THEN you select the resulting canvas, and you can either copypaste the tone into the area required on your image, OR you can set it as a pattern for use over and over. Just select the canvas, and go to Edit>Define Pattern on the top menu. You can re-use the pattern by selecting an area, Filling it, and choosing Pattern from the Fill menu. Then just find your saved pattern!
