Description Finally! After about 80 hours of hard work, I have now finished a picture that I've wanted to make for several years. It is very much inspired by the Lord of the Rings movies, so I guess you will see many similarities.

I had lots of fun with it, despite getting really tired of it less than halfway through. I also learnt a lot, so that's good It is my most complex picture to date, so I recommend that you download the full-size version if you want to see all the details.

Medium: Photoshop CS5
Date: February 10, 2011
References: None, except for the hands.

Critical criticism is very welcome, so don't hesitate to tell me if you see anything that could be improved

I was just stopping by and happened to listen to the Rohan theme. Although this seems to be inspired mostly by the charge of the riders of Gondor, it was still very fitting. It is an incredible piece and knowing that it took 80 hours makes it even more amazing. Very good work.

Thank you! This is quite an old piece of mine now, and I still don't understand how I could spend 80 hours on it, haha But I'm glad you like it!Β

Is the foremost a boy or a girl? The facial shape is just ambiguous enough--I think I'm seeing a man, but I can hope, can't I?

I was wandering if you could let me us this image for an Android game called "Kingdoms of Myth", it's turn based strategy game based on a fantasy World. You can find a little bit more info in this rough website made by my colleges [link] (Sorry for the bad English). Of course you will have full credits of your work and link to your webpage if you want

Lot of thanks for your time

Thank you, I'm glad you like my work

I will give you permission to use this painting of mine in the Android game you mention, as long as you give proper credit. A link to my deviantART gallery would be nice as well. Thank you for asking for permission, it is much appreciated - not everybody do so these days

Manweri In reply to Sigmons [2011-06-30 23:20:25 +0000 UTC]

Well, there's definitely much Rohan in these warriors, but their armors are more Gondor-ish. And elven. So it's a good mix, I suppose ^^

Wow, this is stunning! I wouldn't be able to provide you with any criticism about the painting itself since I'm no artist, but one thing that caught my eye (as someone who did a bit of martial arts) was the second knight - the way he holds his sword, it looks like he has no idea what to do with it, his arm is tense and the whole pose is awkward. Also to me the swords look a bit too small?

But those are just nitpicks. This is a great and very epic picture! The amount of detail on knights and horses is stunning.

Manweri In reply to Inzhuna [2011-04-22 10:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, both for the compliments and the critical criticism! Both are much appreciated

I see what you mean about the rider's arm, and it is one of several things that has bugged me about this picture. I'll probably go back to it and fix a few things soon, now that I'm not killing myself by looking at it anymore I'll keep your words in mind!

Cotopult [2011-04-08 15:43:11 +0000 UTC]

By the way, if you don't mind, I have a small advice. Wouldn't it be a little better if horses and men would be armed a little bit differently from each other?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Manweri In reply to Cotopult [2011-04-08 22:07:53 +0000 UTC]

I suppose it would look more natural that way, though I intended for them to have the same kind of armour. Like the elves in the LOTR movies; they seem to always wear identical armour, depending on where they are from, and I think it gives them a certain elegance and culture. But I appreciate your input, it is something I can keep in mind on future projects, so thank you!

It is one of the main inspirations for this picture, together with Rohirrim The armours are also very much inspired by the elven armours, so I suppose you can find a little bit of everything in the painting. Glad you like it, and thank you!
