In all her years of training horses, Aithne had never seen anything quite like The Aviator. He was a towering 21 hands in height, and his hooves the size of dinner plates, but that was not the strangest thing about him. From his back grew two magnificent wings with creamy tips that looked as though they had been dipped in paint. The things the young woman found most astonishing, however, were his eyes. His bright blue, incredible, eyes. They dove straight into your soul, as though he knew immediately what sort of person you were, and all your past and your secrets. Aithne loved those eyes. She gazed at them with her own mud brown eyes as he watched her calmly from the other side of the fence. It was like he was telling her something. A gentle, slightly rattling, sigh quivered his nostrils as a breeze caught his light mane and tail. For a big, heavy horse, he had surprisingly shiny and floaty hair. His mane and tail would look more at home on an Arabian, but they still looked perfect on The Aviator.

Aithne smiled softly and leant her elbows on the top bar of the white fence. Her black hair tumbled down over her shoulders as she watched the stallion lower his great head to the green grass. His wings flexed gently and with a gentle flick of his tail his attention was gone, or at least she thought it was. Aithne got the impression that he was always watching, wise and all-knowing. No one knew how old he was, but he had already been through two generations of a family. He looked like a horse in his twenties, but those eyes betrayed so many years of living, of learning.

The slender woman pushed herself away from the fence before beginning to move down the path. She heard the gentle thud of the stallion's hooves as he moved to a fresh patch of grass, his teeth ripping noisily at the green blades. The girl smiled to herself and sauntered back to the yard.
