When Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, and Jayfeather are escaping together from a fire that lighting had caused, they get trapped, and Squirrelflight tries to save them by pushing a log through the fire so the three can escape before it catches on fire. But before they can do this, Ashfur jumps infront of Squirrelflight to stop her. He wanted to get revenge on her for choosing Brambleclaw as her mate and not him. So he decided that he would let her kits die infront of her in the fire. They kept quarreling, and the fire got closer. Finally, Squirrelflight said to go ahead and kill them, and she said she didn't care. They were all puzzled. She said that it wouldn't hurt her and said "they are not my kits."

I just read on the warrior's wiki that Sandstorm is his half-sister.
