Description The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding-
Riding-riding-
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

-- "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes

That is one of my fave poems/ballads. I love the imagery presented, as well as the story (so sad...). This vivid imagery from the first stanza of the poem struck me the first time I read the poem some years ago.

I also like Loreena McKennit's song adaptation of the poem (though she cut out a stanza) ^^

Watercolours, because I want to. It was harder than I thought to get the exact image from my head onto paper... at first I wanted some trees too, but couldn't get the perspective right, and didn't know where to put it, so I took them out.

I like how the clouds turned out ^^

Such a nice piece of art! I mean this is really wonderful and the one I drew when I was in 7th grade was lame. Yours would've gotten an A+ if my class and teacher saw this.

Oh, I know that poem, I like it too. I once did a school project using that exact syllable and rhyming pattern, lol.
I think you portrayed that scene really well, that's almost exactly how I thought the view would look like in my head.

You've really matched the verse. Watercolor was an excellent choice. It's a picture I'd expect to accompany the poem in a book.
