Description

These are illustrations for Zachris Topelius' story "Sampo Lappelill", which I turned into a Christmas calendar for daycare kids. The story is revealed in small chunks, each time a picture is revealed.

After sneaking away on one of the family's reindeers, Sampo is soon spotted by wolves. The reindeer manages to outrun the wolf-pack, but in a steep downhill Sampo falls off the sled and tumbles into the snow. Sampo is scared when the lead wolf approaches, but does his best to appear fearless. The wolf asks him where he is going and as Sampo replies that he is going to the mountain Rastekainen, to see Hiisi, the wolf replies that it is also going there. At the mountain there is a huge meeting of all animals and fay creatures, with a general truce that nobody is to be harmed. The wolf gives Sampo a ride to the meeting.
